There only live people of real Mosuo blood. There are not too many visitors. Most of them are people who take a tour around the Lugu Lake. When they arrive there, they can take a rest, drink and chat with local villagers. This village is a paradise but is neglected by people. It even has a more natural atmosphere than Lijiang. Since recent years, there has been some publicity about the village. The Small Water Village has now been more and more available for guests and tourists.

There are not too many cultivated fields in the Small Water Village. The only grain that can be grown here is corn and potato. People are lived by keeping livestock and fishing. However because of the limit of land resource and geographical environment, the life of the local people is a little hard. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the lake. The bank of the Lugu Lake is arc shaped with reeds surrounded. It is very interesting to sail a boat out among these reeds.

There is an interesting legend about the formation of the Lugu Lake. Long long ago, the lake was a village. An orphan was in the village and he grazed everyday in the Lion Mountain. Sheep and cattle were always very strong if people asked him to graze. One day, he felt a sleep under a tree. He dreamed a big fish and said to him:”Good boy, you are so poor. You needn’t bring lunch from then on and you can eat me.” When the little boy waked up, he began to find the fish in the mountain. Finally he found it in a cave. Then he cut a piece of meat and grilled I and ate. The next day, he went there again. He found there are a big fish again. A greedy man knew the story, he also wanted the fish. So some other greed people and him tided up the big fish and pulled it out of the cave. Unfortunately, the disaster came. The flood spewed out the cave and submerged the village. At that time, a Mosuo woman was feeding her pig while two children were playing. The woman saw the flood and showed her resourcefulness in the emergency. She took her children into the pigsty at once, but she was died. The village became a lake. The two children flowed in the flood. Then they became the ancestors of the place.
