Akin to the National Stadium in Beijing, the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (The Expo) instills a strong sense of accomplishment and legacy even after the conclusion of a major event in the country’s history. The Expo’s location means that it is reachble by the Shanghai metro with Madang Road Station and moreover for Shanghai flights, it is only a few minutes away from Pudong International airport by train. In light of the outstanding recent developments in the city, there is no doubt you will find quality accommodation from Shanghai hotels which are in close proximity to The Expo.

Interestingly, the Expo 2010 venue in Shanghai was the largest venue of its kind ever (covering over 5.28 square kilometres) which comprised of international expositions and fairs. The 2010 ‘Better City – Better Life’ theme reinforced Shanghai’s status as a world city well into the 21st century. Indeed, Expo 2010 has certainly left an impressive legacy with the site welcoming an unprecedented record of 73 million visitors by the end of Expo 2010.

On face value, you may think that the site may have gone the way of the Millennium Dome in London and lapsed straight after its major event.
However, if anything, the project has moved swiftly on by perpetually creating new exhibits and attractions. For this reason, myself and my friends were generally impressed with the site. In spite of not being able to experience the extravaganza of Expo 2010; funnily enough, there were still people selling passports with stamps from all the countries involved lingering around the Expo Park. Even a model of the Expo mascot, Haibao (with the appearance of a blue Chinese character for people) is noticeable with kids flocking to have their photo taken with him.

On our visit to Expo, we were unable to go inside the most recognisable of the buildings, namely The China Pavillion (or ‘Oriental Crown’, due to its iconic shape). There were, nevertheless, other notable buildings to enter such as the Mercades-Benz Arena. Inside, there are swanky cars on display and some smart restaurants which is a marked contrast from its spaceship-looking exterior! Once in the arena, there is platform (we had some difficulty finding the actual access point) which encircles the arena. From here, you can gaze in awe over the city and even cheekily watch what is going on below; such as the Strawberry Festival in our case.

Happening in both Beijing and Shanghai, the Strawberry Festival is a prime example of how Expo has been utilised since 2010. Considering my friends and I were budgeting at the time, we gave the festival a pass with the prices fetching 120RMB or 300RMB for a three-day pass. Having said this, these prices seem decent compared to the many festivals abroad plus it is an excellent way to polish off an awesome stay on a travel to Shanghai.

Today, I will recommend something about what to prepare to Shanghai expo. Firstly, you have to book some Shanghai Flights and Shanghai Hotels. A lot of friends have great interests on the Shanghai expo. But before you go there, you should take a lot of things in consideration. I have list the following suggestions.

Firstly, you have to make complete plans to Shanghai. Before you make you plans, you have to make the near spots been seen together. For example, the Lujiazui, the Bund, Chenghuamiao, the People Square, Beijing Road and Xujiahui, etc. you have to know about the traffic conditions and leave some space for that. Do not make your travel so tense.

Secondly, you have to find a comfortable hotel. During Shanghai Expo, the prices of hotels vary heavily. The hotels near the expos charges higher. Some four to five star hotels may charge as 40 percent as before. So you can choose those far away from expos but near convenient traffic. The best choices are the train stations, People Square, Xujiahui District. They are on the crossings of two subways. Luxun Park, Dabaishu, Caoyang, Caohejing and Hailong districts are including cheap hotels. You can get to the city centre by way of those convenient traffics.

Thirdly, take advantage of the special travel lines. The expo stadiums hold more than 10000 park lots. More than 100 traffic lines near expo stadiums. In addition, there are 16 nonstop special lines to expo stadiums. After 21:00 p.m., there are lots of taxis. Some one day trip buses have the limited timetable, you can take them depend on your interests and time.

Fourthly, there are some ways to get cheap entry tickets. If you have the student cards, soldier cards and you are the elder more than 70, you can get the discounted tickets. Besides, you can purchase the coupon tickets. For example, the coupon ticket of the grand theater, museum and gallery in People Square only costs 50 RMB. You can save 30 RMB. There are many other choices like this.

Then, you should know about the stadiums settings. The open time of stadiums includes the weekdays and weekends. The park opens from 9:00 am. The stadium opens in 9:30 am. According to the stadiums data, the average time of visiting is about 7-8 hours. So you have to make sure your favored stadiums’ locations before setting out.

Lastly, you are not permitted to take beverage and water. The security of Shanghai expo is very strict. Even some daily goods cannot be taken into the park if they are not ensured 100 percent safe to other people.

There are also some other tips.

No matter what traffic you are taking, there are volunteers providing services for you in the airport and train stations.

You had better the visiting bloom season.

You have to make reservation to some hot stadiums. That means as soon as you get into the park you have to make it. They will inform you the entry time and you can arrange some other stadiums visiting according to it.

The evening scenery of the park is beautiful. It is from 9:30 am to 22:30 everyday.

Before you going inside, you had better take the visiting map.

In the park, there are all kinds of flavors at home and abroad. So every 5 minutes walk you can get to a food position.

Not everywhere can you smoke. You have to go to the smoking area.

Some important stadiums need the security.

The Extremely Hot Month for China Traveling

On October 19, 2010, in Beijing, Cool Places, Must-sees, by Jack Li

Talking about China Tours, the most popular and must-see cities would be Beijing, Shanghai, or Xi’an. If you are interested in historical spots of ancient China, Travel to Xi’an could satisfy you. Talking about China Tours, the most popular and must-see cities would be Beijing, Shanghai, or Xi’an. If you are interested in historical spots of ancient China, Travel to Xi’an could satisfy you. Well, Beijing could be the choice to experience the combination of history and modern cities. However, in this month, these two hot tourism cities together are attracting much less visitors than Shanghai.

Shanghai is always the favorite city for western visitors, as its climate is comfortable and the local cultures there are quite western style. But I would like not to recommend Shanghai for your trip this month (October, 2010), because the 2010 World Expo is going to close this month. As a result, the number of visitors to Shanghai Expo exceeds 1,000,000 every single day this month. Even the municipality is texting messages to people, asking them not go to the Expo. This same message is also broadcasting on each public vehicle. The numbers of visitors and the hot scenes in 2010 Shanghai Expo are the top domestic news these days. The waiting time for some pavilions are hitting to a new record every day. For example, visitors for the petroleum pavilion had to wait 10 hours or more on Oct 11th, 20 days before its closure. Even some “cold” pavilions, such as Iran or some African countries, needs waiting time for at least 6 hours.

Since it opened, the 2010 Shanghai Expo is the hot online topic every day and people satirized it by replacing the name with “Shanghai Struggling Expo”. But this month it becomes the hottest topic on internet. There are many netizens making fun of this hot scene. On renren.com, a popular similar Chinese “facebook”, many users changed their status related to this. “When I saw the news that the visitors reached 1 million, suddenly I thought maybe I should go to see this spectacular crowded view rather than the Expo itself.” one netizen wrote on his status. “Till 2:30pm, Oct 11th, 2010, 80 countries in the world have less population than Shanghai Expo at this time.” a visitor updated her status by phone. One of my colleague who is responsible for booking tour packages for foreign visitors, just “refused” a request for Shanghai Expo express way tour, as he said “it is impossible to arrange such tour now, because the tickets are not selling much anymore, and the government is trying to control the number of visitors and also asking people not to visit Shanghai Expo now.”

Anyway, if you still do not want to miss this quite crowd but extraordinary exhibition, here are still some tips for you to suffer less during the trip. Schedule your visiting time to be the last week before its closure (Oct 25 to Oct 31). Why? Because the last week is assigned to be more expensive than usual, this may, but I do not guarantee, restrict some people from visiting. And the last two days, Oct 30 and Oct 31, will not sell and change tickets. Also there are many activities and celebrations will hold on these two days. So booking your tickets in advance for these two days, will also give you a more comfortable and less crowded tour.

Travelling to China always brings you a lot of exotic fun and experiences, but you will also have to accept the crowded situation. Though in India, Tokyo and Hong Kong, you could understand what is the truly crowed. If you really do not want to see this crowed scene, you can try other less popular cities in China. Actually, these cities are chosen by more Chinese youngsters. These cities are more likely in Southwestern China, like Lijiang (丽江) in Yunnan province, Fenghuang in Hunan province, and Guilin Tours in Guangxi province. In the next articles, introductions about travelling to these rural but beautiful cities will be presented.

Useful Tips for Low Fare Travel to Shanghai Expo

According to the official statistics, 62,660,000 people have visited the 2010 Shanghai Expo. It is quite a hot travelling spot this year, so you may have been thinking Travel to Shanghai. But the economy is so depressing these two years, people have to consider saving money on everything. But less money does not absolutely equal to losing some fun during the travel. To write this article, I collect some tips from both Chinese netizens’ opinions and my own or friends’ experience. And this article will not cover information on Shanghai Hotels and flights, as these are already plenty of tips on how to get cheap hotels and airline tickets.

1. Choose the proper route. There are 13 entering spots for Shanghai Expo, and you can get there by various vehicles, such as subways, buses, fairies, and driving. But the most cheap and convenient method would be subways. Five subway lines reach different entering spots. Among them, line 8 is recommended by netizens as it reaches zone B and the station is Yaohua Road. And it is close to the fairy station to across Huangpu River to Asian exhibition parks for free. There are also 4 entering spots for fairies, and only Dongchang Road gate is available for individual visitors. The waiting time is 20 minutes from 8am to 12pm, and 40 minutes between 4pm to 6pm.

2. Expenses in the parks. The security rules are similar to the flights. Any liquids are not permitted to carry with. The drinks in parks are much more expensive that are around RMB 4 to 5 yuan. You need a lot of water to be “surviving” in the tour. So if you just drink the free filtered tap water in the park, you could save some money.  You can bring some snacks to avoid expenses in the park, but it seems unnecessary and adding burdens. There are some good but relatively cheap restaurants in the culture & art center. Moreover, remember to bring a folding stool with you, as you will walk and stand for a long time.

3.Types of tickets. One-day tickets vary with peak days and standard days. Ticket price for peak days are RMB 40 yuan more than in standard days. Peak Days include passed two large holidays in China, and the last week before the closing date during Oct. 25-30, 2010. Other days are the standard days. But my friends who have been to Shanghai Expo highly recommend the 3-day pass ticket which not only saves your RMB 80 yuan, but also a lot of waiting time to buy tickets. It is impossible that you could visit most of the parks just in one day. 3 days are suitable for major visitors, while 7-day pass is only good for those who are the big fan of Expo. A trick to buy even cheaper tickets is to join the Expo tour service, provided by authorized travel agents.

4.Save a lot on souvenirs. Usually souvenirs cost you a large amount of money without your notice. And these small stuffs in the parks are much more expensive than other places. Some of them are not so special that you can buy from other places, but some of them are unique in the parks. In this case, you could search for free gifts in different pavilions. At 9am every day, you can get a piece of “magic” opal in Turkey pavilion and you can ask the astrologer to tell your luck today. You may also get a secret seed from the glass structure outside of British pavilion at 10am. And you could some free food trials in Peru pavilion from 1pm. If you are crazy about chocolates, then you have 99% chances to get a pack of genuine Belgium chocolate in its country pavilion at 3pm. Check these free gifts before you go, and feel free to ask visitors or staff there.

Shanghai is the biggest city in China and also an international metropolis. Nowadays many foreigners come to this modern city for travelling, business and shopping. Besides, the Expo Site attracts an increasingly number of people to Travel to Shanghai. So if you still haven’t made your trip decision yet. Don’t hesitate. Join the Shanghai Tours right now and you won’t be regretted.

Then how to get a cheap ticket? Here are the tips.

1. A good time. Shanghai air fare boosts all-round due to the Expo. Usually if you book the ticket in advance about 2 or 3 months, you probably will get a great discount. Well, another way to get a great discount is to buy the ticket at the airport spot. Before the airplane take off, they have to check the vacant seat. Because once an airplane took off, the costs on this airplane will lost for good, and the benefits won’t get for good. So the airport will try everything they can to sell the ticket and make sure the full house, even the very low price. So if you are so lucky that you get the ticket which is disposed at all costs. Congratulations. I always take my chance. 2 or 3 hours early is the best time.

2. E-Chinabank. If you don’t have too much time, you probably will book on-line. Nowadays, the airlines and banks have many kinds of cooperation. Using the specific E-bank card, you will get the sales promotion. Such as the cash refund, some gifts or even a good bargain. I suggest that you apply for some cards. It will be convenient and definitely cost-effective. Besides, if you book the air ticket on-line, E-bank card is necessary. Only your payment successfully could submit your order. The progress to book a ticket should be: visit the site, choose the flight, know the sales promotion news, choose the payment and distribution methods, submitted orders, payment completed filled.

3. Through airline operation. If time permits, you better buy the through ticket. It’s more economical. I may say that direct flight save the time and through flight save the money. I prefer the trough flight because you can enjoy more views even maybe just an airport. You don’t have to worry about missing your next flight; usually the time of a through ticket is automatically booked by computer. It can’t be that stupid to make your schedule clash. Some people consider that if they choose the through flight, they will have to pay twice or even more times. Never mind about that. Even you have to pay the air insurance, the bunker surcharge or something like this twice, it is still much cheaper than the direct flight. If you come from foreign country, you can fly to the nearest city in China first, and then fly to China. It is a quite different between international flight and domestic flight even in the same distance.

4. Chartered flight of travel agency. Some big travel agencies always charter a plane to Shanghai. But they can’t be full house all the time. You need to grab this opportunity. There are some seats left on the plane. You should ask for it. The travel agencies also want the extra gains. But unlikely the airlines, they won’t sell at the original price. By the way, taking a flight just likes seeing a movie. The flight in the morning and in the late night is cheaper than any other time. Like an early movie. This is the rule which fits not only the chartered flight but also all kinds of flights.

Noted all about it, I believe that you will get the cheapest Shanghai Flights in the world. Enjoy your trip, anyway.

As we all know, the one month countdown for the close of Shanghai Expo is coming soon. So we really have to grasp the rare opportunity to go there and have a look at all the cultures from all over the world. When we are planning our china travel, the first thing is to book an airline ticket. Even in this hot season when all the people are heading for the Expo, do you know you can still get a low price for an airline ticket? Let’s see what we can do before we begin our Travel to Shanghai.

Choose a Connecting Ticket. Sometimes, to buy a connecting ticket may cost us less money. Even when we buy the tickets separately, we still pay less money for both the tickets. For example, if you are going to China from the U.S., you can purchase a ticket that includes a stop at Japan or Korea. Remember, a connecting ticket to Shanghai Expo is cheaper than a direct flight.

Choose Online Payment. As we all know, a lot of cheap tickets are sold online. The price comes out at certain time and you really have to buy it quickly. So you’d better have online payment in order to book your tickets as soon as possible. Otherwise, the low fare airline tickets would be sold to someone else. Sometimes you may even get more discounts or cash back if you choose to pay online.

Choose the Right Time. Normally, you could get some good discounts one or two months ahead of time. But even within a short time before the departure day, especially in the morning when the price is first given out, you may still get a ticket for a good price because the airline company would make it lower when there are only certain seats left. So instead of checking online all the time, you may stick to some certain hours in the morning.

Choose to Do it with a Group. If possible, you can choose to buy the airline tickets with a group of other people. When you have a lot of people, the airline company may give you a much lower price. But in this way, you have to find enough number of people.

Choose a Travel Agency. Because the travel agencies are the partners of a lot of airline companies, they may give you more discount than the official websites of some airline companies. You can find online a lot of travel agencies and compare the prices given by their websites and make your final decision.

Price by the Airline Company. Sometimes the airline companies would also give a lot of discounts for their tickets. But the thing about it is that you may not be able to choose your time. These tickets have a lot of restrictions such as the time of the flight and you may not be allowed to change the tickets, etc. But who knows, maybe you would get what you just want.

Leave a Message Online. If you really don’t have time to do that, you can just leave a message online. In this way, if the travel agencies see your message, they will contact you. But you have to leave the message a long time before you leave because you may need to wait some time before some agencies contact you.

The above information may help you to get a cheap airline tickets. If you decide to see the Shanghai Expo before it has been closed, you can go to check Shanghai Flights first.

When my friend James came from the U.S. for his China Tours, he can’t wait to get to the Shanghai Expo. As a student living in Beijing, I have never been to Shanghai in my whole life. I don’t want to get lost in one of the biggest cities in the world. I was thinking what I should do. One of my good friends suggested us to go there with a group through a travel agency. So I did that to make sure everything would be in track during our Shanghai tours.

At the beginning, I didn’t expect too much from the group because I thought we may have to sacrifice our own time on looking something that we may not be very interested. However, after we finish our long trip from Beijing to Shanghai, James told me that this was the best time he had ever had in China. It was convenient, efficient and the most important thing is that we had learnt a lot about the attractions.

Low Price. Compare with going out by ourselves, travel with a group would be much cheaper. For example, the travel agency can always get the tickets for a much lower price. The second biggest part is the hotel. While the travel agency can not only save you a lot of trouble finding a good hotel, the price is also not too expensive. In this way, we save about half the price.

Low Carbon Consuming. Since we go to see those places of interests on a big bus with about another 50 people, comparing with independent traveling by ourselves, we are releasing less pollution to the environment. If we could do anything to protect our living place, why not?

Trouble Saving. Since we were not familiar with the city of Shanghai, we can’t do anything by ourselves. While our bus took us to all the places that we could think of. For example, James wanted to get some gifts for his family and friends, it was lucky that one of our stops was at the Old City God’s Temple in Shanghai. After we got there, James was so happy that he got a lot of good deals and what he wants. Another thing about this was the Expo. I heard that some private tourists have to get up at 2am or even 1am to get the tickets for the Chinese pavilion. While we only had to get up at 6am and we got the opportunity to get into the Chinese pavilion because of the reservation through the travel agency.

Friendly Tour Friends. During our trip, James and I had made a lot of new friends. We always talk to the people in the bus, sharing with each other the interesting part in our trip. We talked a lot and later we became good friends. Some of them even asked us to travel to their cities. It was so interesting! We still keep in touch even after our tour. Those friendly people are also part of our memories.

Efficient Travel Routes. As we all know, the travel agency would arrange the travel routes for the tourists. Those routes are very tight so that they can take us to many different places within a short time. Added by the explanations from the tourist guide, we could see a lot and learn a lot. For example, during our Hangzhou trip, we had been to the West Lake, the Lingyin Temple, a garden, a silk market and a tea house. During this trip, our tourist guide had explained a lot of knowledge about those different places. In this way, we were getting familiar with the history of this city and this is the very goal.

This was such a good experience. We would like to do it again—Travel to Shanghai.
