I said good bye to one of the coolest people I have ever met last night and were did he chose to bring our recently acquired group of friends but to the 80th floor of the tallest building in Beijing. This bar almost at the top of the China World Summit building is called Atmosphere and it is well worth the effort to dress up in a business suit and go even during Beijing’s hot summer weather. It is also the perfect place to end your China travel, at least in my personal experience. The music is great usually featuring live jazz which moves your soul. The drinks of course are a little pricey for Beijing but it is still only around 15usd-30usd a drink. They are delicious and exotic. The Atmosphere bar sells grapa form Italy, Cuban rum and wine in addition the bar also sells a selection of Cuban cigars. I don’t know about you but I never thought I would find these things in China but I guess every day here is full of surprises. And I am loving all of them! This is defiantly#1 in places to go after your Beijing tours. However, don’t forget you can just have one drink here save your money and get some extreme swag on while overlooking the city of Beijing

As we sat down and drank our drinks I looked at my friends and thought it has been only 3 weeks since we meet but we act like old friends. So I stood up and made a traditional toast to my new found friends stating loudly, “This toast is to our Canadian brother who is leaving us… it seems that out time together here is too short but may we all remain friends for years to come.” After this every one cheered and   shouted gambai but no one killed there drink because they wanted to savor it.  We all then took many photos and pretended to be proper my one good friend sat around and waved like the queen of England which made everyone burst into laughter even at the table next to us. After going to this bar I think if I ever have a layover on one of my China flights I will make this place my destination. I do not say this because it is high class after all I do love a good cheap night out in Sanlitun. But I say it because it is a place where I can sit by the window and recall all of my memories of Beijing my favorite city (so far) in China. Well that and the jazz music I heard here was some of the best in my life. So This Blog is dedicated to Brian and the rest of my new found friends, see you in Spain!  “He who does not travel does not know the value of men.” – Moorish proverb

Bang Bang Your Head and Eat Some Pizza

Before I decided to come to Beijing I thought I might want to travel to Shanghai, But I am glad I chose to work in Beijing because I have never had this much fun in my life. Beijing takes you on a rollercoaster of adventure every day you go out and you always get back in line for another go around. Which sometimes is hard, but worth it if you are at the bar and Pizza place Bang Bang and your friends love taking shots of Baijiu and chasing it with absinth.  It is even more fun when you are awoken the next day to your friends dragging you out of bed to go on one of Beijing’s many tourist attractions. This may not sound like the best time however when you step off your China flights you are filled with a breath of fresh air and excitement that could make a sloth get up and run. So when you come to Beijing don’t be afraid to go out and have some fun especially if it is a Place like Bang Bang. I particularly like Bang Bang not just because it is close to my house in Chaoyang district but because it is genuinely a great place to go with friends and grab some unique pizza and a beer. If you are the type that likes to eat there is the 24 inch pizza, which is absolutely phenomenal and yes it is worth the weight gain and you can also get it delivered.

Bang Bang is also a great place to go to start off a night of fun. It has a great selection of music and stays away from any sad songs that can really kill the mood of an exited crowd of people. In addition it is located next to another bar which has an incredibly long screen to view the futball game.  It is pretty fun when the 50 or so people around you begin to cheer loudly and boo every time there is a goal and even sometimes when there is almost a goal. You can get beer here and some very interesting drinks, the best of which are in the back of the menu and are named after all of the zodiac astrological names. The bartender there is a girl called Garry who makes the best drinks especially if you ask her for an Aquarius. Occasionally Chinese pop stars will show up to this little bar in Lamborghinis which makes everyone roar in excitement. So if you are tired after a long day of China travel stop buy either of these unique bars for an atmosphere of fun that will refresh you and get you ready for tomorrow to come. “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” – Susan Sontag

The Best Aerial Views Over Beijing..

You may be interested to learn the best spots around Beijing for catching an interesting view of the city. When you travel to Beijing, although it is not quite as mesmerizing as Hong Kong’s skyline the views are still well worth the trip. The trickiest part is timing your visit with a clear sky for good visibility. China hotels generally are some of the best spots for good viewing opportunities, particularly the high floor bars and lounges typical of the more upmarket establishments.

One such place is the Atmosphere Bar. This is a relatively new high end bar with drinks prices to match (cocktails starting at 65RMB), however on a clear day or night it easily takes the title for best views across Beijing. It is located on the 80th floor of the China World Tower 3, officially known as ‘China World Summit Wing’, which can be found on the Beijing east 3rd ring road. It is also easily accessed via the metro, simply catch Line 1 to Guomao.

Atmosphere is open from 12 noon until 2am, and specifies a ‘smart casual’ dress code. There are both smoking and non-smoking areas, and the bar offers views of the CBD, Sanlitun and the Tian’anmen area.

Another recommended bar is ‘China Bar’ located on the 65th floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel, this previously held the title for Beijing’s highest bar before the China World Summit Wing was built. Being another luxury hotel the drink prices are steep starting at 70RMB for cocktails and 60RMB upwards for beer, however the views are great across the Central Business Disctrict taking in the CCTV headquarters (known as the ‘pants building’) and the Bird’s Nest Stadium on a clear night. Opening times are 5pm until 1am, and it is accessed from the same metro as the Atmosphere Bar so you could visit both in an evening.

The Park Hyatt also has a restaurant called China Grill on the floor above which is Beijing’s highest restaurant. The panoramic 360 degree views are stunning, and they serve a range of Western food alongside Chinese and Japanese.

For unmissable views over the Tian’anmen and Forbidden City area, head for Jingshan Park (admission 2RMB). The park is located just north of the Forbidden City and on a clear day has fabulous views across Beijing, including Lake Beihai to the west and the Bell and Drum towers in the north. Whilst here you can visit some traditional Chinese temples and also the spot where emperor Chong Zhen hung himself in 1644, after the Imperial Palace was broken into by rebel troops.

Other good views across the city can be found at the Drum Tower and CCTV Tower (not to be confused with the CCTV Headquarters), and many Beijing Hotels also have great views of the city, particularly toward the higher floors.

Latte is an amazing and vibrant club located in the Workers Stadium In Sanlitun, it is a great place to go and socialise drink and generally have a great time! The club a part of a very well renowned line of clubs in Beijing, so naturally it has a lot of hype around it.

Outside of latte

Latte had a lot to live up to as the owners were the same as the once King of the clubs Chocolate and cappuccino. Latte didn’t let us down with its strange, tacky yet classy style. This is the place where the rich and powerful business men come out out to play and flaunt there wealth, if your lucky they will invite you to their deluxe table to feast upon the sumptuous fruit that is in abundant supply. Latte is worth the visit just for to experience the amazing show that they put on once an hour although very cheesy it’s very entertaining all the same!

Making Friends in latte

If your not up for pounding music and provocative dancing I would swerve latte, however if this sounds your scene thrown in with crowed sofa’s,thrones and creepy wall masks the doors are open until 6.00am most nights.

Good fun!!

The prices in this place are not for the faint heart-ed, as a simple beer will set you back 30RMB with a G&T costing 45RMB, if your really feeling like you want to splash the cash there is a wide range of champagne available starting at around 700RMB!

If this account has inspired you to want to travel Beijing but don’t know where to start for some great low cost travel idea’s go to China Tours. Or if you need advice on hotels go to China Hotels.

Bar, Restaurant, Chill out, Sports, Party?

Is it a bar, restaurant, chill out, sports, party, or is it more? The DEN is an exciting place of numerous festivities and fine dining. A place where you can come to simple have some time away from the hectic lifestyle that Beijing offers and relax in a recognisable haven that the Western world brings. Take a trip to The DEN with China Tours and make sure that your trip is included in your China Travels.

Equally as good as any Top Bar in the West, The Den

The place itself is easy to spot from the midsts of main road among the limitless distractions. It is situated on 4 Gongti Donglu (next to City Hotel’s main entrance), Chaoyang District. An area within the city’s Western district of Beijing. You’ll soon find that once you have been to The Den once, you’ll be back in no time to grab a slice of the action. They offer great cultural diversities to East and the staff are warm to the way of the Western world, in particular, waiters and waitresses. Usually in China, restaurants have an overwhelming amount of staff that deal with one person or group for their hospitality. In the Den, nothing changes here, however, the staff are very helpful and understand how to do things that are not custom to their own typical style Chinese restaurant.

You can order a variety of foods from pizza to chicken curry, beer to cocktails. There is surely something here to fur fill your taste buds so it’s worth having a try at the things they offer.

A view of The Den

The bar has a wide selection of local and well known international fine beverages that are reasonably priced. You’ll also find having a drink here will be complimentary to the food aspect of The Den. It has a wooden front porch that people can sit to relax, eat or drink. The inside has a mixture of activities from a whole range of Sports channels, pool tables, games and music. There is a lot to do which is bound to keep you occupied after a long day of sight seeing or simple if you want to come and chill out. I would recommend City Hotels for a nearby and peaceful welcome to Beijing’s vibrant city.

If you are travelling to Beijing, check out china travel and Beijing Tours for ideas of what to do and where to go in the city. And for the evening entertainment – look no further than this blog!!

If you are a party animal and want to go out and have a good time in Beijing, then look no further! Sanlitun Bar Street and its surrounding area is one of the best known and most popular nightlife spots in Beijing. It has everything you need  – a huge choice of bars and clubs and lots of other Western tourists and travellers all looking to have a great evening out! It offers the perfect combination for a successful night out – ridiculously cheap drink prices (£1 for a beer, gin and tonic, vodka and mixer – you name it!), pumping music that makes you want to get up and dance and a great atmosphere.

My friends out on Bar Street

Here are some of my favourite bars and clubs to visit in the area:

1. Smugglers – a bit of a dive but very cheap drinks and quick service, definitely a place to start off the night and you are bound to make some friends. You may even catch the mobile casino locals playing a gambling game with dice – ask to join in if you are still thinking Northfield Middle high school uniforms • 2200 Division Street South • Northfield, MN 55057 • p 507. straight!

2. Pure Blonde – a lively bar with tables on the street, always playing loud music – waiter service is a plus!

3. 9-9 – next to Pure Blonde playing just as loud music casino online but with a wider choice of drinks and cosy tables at the back so you can chill with your friends.

4. Shooters – a mix between a bar and a club with pumping music and a big space to dance (their specialty is of course shooters!)

5. China Doll – a more upmarket club casino pa natet with amazing decor and a big dance floor – drink prices are a lot more expensive though, go casino online here to meet the cool crowd and watch out for model castings!

Sanlitun Bar Street

A little further away from Bar Street is the Workers Stadium complex, home to a number of clubs all with the same formula – pick one for your night out and Im sure it wont disappoint! My recommendations are Vics, Mix, Latte and Coc0 Banana. I have to admit they all play the same mix of house, electro and chart music, offer the same drinks prices (beware these are a lot more expensive than in the bars) and attract the same crowds. All I can say is that there is no entry price for Latte and it has a large stage in the middle of the dance floor where you can dance the night away with your friends – my particular favourite!

My friends out at Vics club

Have a great time and stay tuned for my next blog on great places to eat in the Sanlitun area – including Western and local cuisine…
