The original Wuzhen refers to the Dongzha View Spot. Xizha View Spot of Wuzhen was opened to public after some repairs. You have to take boat into the Xizha View Spot. Harmony is the most appropriate word to describe Xizha. Xizha consists of 12 islands, and over 70 bridges connect these islands together. The number of rivers and stone bridges in Wuzhen is the highest across the nation. The most beautiful bridge scenery in Wuzhen is called ‘Bridge in Bridge’. As Tongji Bridge connects to Renji Bridge at right angles, through one bridge’s arch you can see the other bridge. That’s the reason why the scenery is called as ‘Bridge in Bridge’.
In Xizha you can find many handcrafts. The first thing is the handmade soy sauce which is the key point that made local dishes taste so delicious. The handmade soy sauce is very cheap. One bottle of it only costs 10 Yuan. The second thing is handmade iron pot. The pots which priced 99 Yuan are the most popular ones, as 99 sounds like permanence in Chinese. The third thing is silk. The Yida Silk Workshop founded in the first years during the reign of Emperor Guangxu in Qing Dynasty. Visitors can operate the old silk machine by themselves.
There are various night activities in Xizha. For example, you can drink beer and listen to operas; put lotuses lanterns in the water in memory of your relatives; take pictures and so on. In ancient times, women got together after they dressed up, carrying a pot which was used to boil Chinese traditional medicine. When they passed a bridge, they would throw the pot into water. They thought this action can protect them from disease. Nowadays people do not do that anymore. In festivals people cross the bridge, carrying lanterns instead of throwing pots.
Hotels and inns in Xizha are very special. The outsides of these buildings belong to the Ming and Qing Dynasties architectures, while the insides are equipped with air conditions, natural gas, broadband network, satellite TV and so on. It is a harmony between ancient and modern. Xizha also has bars, spas such modern recreation.
