The Snowland is located above the snow line of the Bogda Peak, which is 3800 meters above the sea level. The area looks like a beautiful white ocean because it is covered by thick permanent snow and magnificent glaciers. Dates back to 1,700,000 to 570,000 years ago, when the earth was experiencing an algid stage, the Snowland occupied one third of the whole peak, and the largest glaciers were as long as 27 kilometers. The huge glaciers moved down the peak along the valley and left many traces. Visitors can still find on the cliffs of the valley.
Since the earth is now in its warm period, the scale of the permanent snow and glaciers are growing smaller. The Snowland occupies 55 hectares on the peak, within which there are approximately 44 glaciers. The longest glacier lasts for 7 kilometers. Visitors can indulge into many special glacial landforms there, such as esker, ice dam, and arete.
There is no much wildlife in the Snowland area because of its frozen temperature. Actually, only white snow chickens and snow leopards take the area as their home. The white snow chicken is the only kind of chicken you can find in such a high elevation in the world. They go out to search their food in areas with relatively lower elevation, and live in the Snowland. If you are lucky enough, you may meet these lovely creatures during your trip to the Snowland.
