The No. 8 on the Shanhaiguan Avenue is the Diaoyutai Villa of Qingdao. It is called “the Diaoyutai Villa” because many Chinese and foreign political leaders stayed there during their visit to Qingdao (There is a famous hotel in Beijing called “Diaoyutai”, and it is used for receiving political leaders all over the world.). The villa consists of two main buildings, with a total floor area of 1226.22 square meters. The building on the right side is American style architecture. It is an asymmetric four story building. Most of the walls are occupied by large windows. It impresses visitors for its simple and elegant design. The building used to be Commander of the United States Seventh Fleet, General Kirk’s residence. All the well-preserved furniture in the house was shipped oversea from American. After the People’s Republic of China was founded in 1949, many political leaders of China have visited here, including Chairman Mao and Prime Minister Zhou Enlai. The building on the left side is a newly established hotel. It was built in 1993. There are indoor swimming pools, gymnasiums, sauna bathrooms, a bowling alley and a billiard room in the building. The five-star hotel welcomes a lot of famous visitors every day.
