Xishuangbanna is one of the few places in Yunnan that doesn’t snow in winter. In January the coldest month the average temperature is 16oC, while the highest temperature only rises to 28oC. Thus Xishuangbanna bathes all year-round in blissful sunshine with pleasant warmth. There are only two seasons here which are dry season and rainy season. So there goes a household saying that “long summer without winter, a downpour makes autumn”.

Best time to visit Xishuangbanna

Although it is an all-year-round tourist destination, the weather is most favorable from November to April.

June to September is the harvest season for all kinds of tropical fruits.

May to October is the rainy season, however, the roads conditions are excellent, Xishuangbanna is also a popular destination.

How to get to Xishuanbanna:

Air: Hongjing (Xishuangbanna) Airport

HOngjing Airport is the second largest in Yunnan province providing flights to major cities like Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shanghei, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, Chengdu, Chongqing, etc. International airline was opened in 1996 to Bangkok.

Land:

Bus: Express way from Kunming to Xishuangbanna. Tickets are available at the Kunming Bus Terminal.

Train: More than 20 trains from Kunming to Hongjing. The ride is about 9 hours and the price is 180 to 200 Yuan with a rise of 15-20% during the Spring Festival the peak season of railway transportation in China.

Water:

Langcang River waterway: Hongjing Port is the national first level water port with three docks which are Hongjing, Ganlan and Guanlei Dock. International waterways are also available to Chiengmai, Thailand and Vientiane, Laos.
