The original Wanshou Bridge in Ancient Town Daxu, a single-arch stone bridge, was built in Ming dynasty (over 400 years ago) and rebuilt in 1899 (the 25th year of Qing Emperor Guangxu’s reign). This old bridge regarded as key heritage is located where the Horse River (also known as Jiansha River) and Lijiang River meet. Constructed with wood, the original slab bridge had three arches and was destroyed almost completely in a flood. In 1903, the early years of Qing dynasty, it was rebuilt and changed into a single-arch stone bridge as visitors can see nowadays. The length of the bridge measures 29.6 m, the height 7.1 m, and the clear span 16.8 m. Over twenty footsteps will lead visitors to the bridge floor paved with blue flagstone. With guardrail on both sides and four exquisite stone lions (destroyed during the Cultural Revolution) in each corner, the bridge witnesses the development and change of this beautiful ancient town.
