The scenic spot of the painted nine horses mountain canyon drift is a famous tourist attraction along the Lijiang River. The mountain seems to be cut off from the side facing the river and resembles a flat mirror. The canyon drift under the mountain is particularly worth experiencing. The full length of the drift is 3.5 kilometers, with a 150m drop. The unique design of the drift will make tourists feel they are wandering in painting. It is the only synthetic leisure scenic spot in Yang Shuo, including drift, canyoning, camping, pedestrianism, rock climbing, field operations, filming and outward development. Best Time to visit the Painted Nine Horses Mountain

April to October is the best time to visit the mountain. In April, the weather is warm and there’s plenty of rain. It is the best time to do the drift down the river.

Annotations: from December to March, the weather is very cold. Nevertheless, many tourists come during that time for the spring festival and winter vacation. The golden week in May and October attracts many visitors. July and September are too hot, but due to the summer vacation many students come. June is the rain season of Gui Ling so the water table is very high and floods may occur.

How to get to the Painted Nine Horses Mountain

Take boat or on foot from Xingping or Yangdi

  1. Take boat from Yangdi, powerboat costs about 80 Yuan and bamboo raft costs about 60 Yuan.
  2. The mountain is 6 kilometers from Xingping. A bamboo raft from Xingping costs 40 Yuan and takes about 30~40 minutes. Get off the raft and proceed on foot. In the slack season, you have to lease boat and it is expensive. Besides if you choose the bamboo raft and don’t go ashore, you will not have to pay the 16 Yuan ticket.

On foot, it takes 2~3 hours from Xingping.
