South Peak, with the height of 2154.9 meters, is the highest peak of Huashan Mountain and the highest peak of the Five Mountains. Ancient people call it “head of Huashan Mountain”. When you reach the top of South Peak, you will feel that you are quite near to the sky and you can even touch the stars. Look around and the rolling green mountains, silk-like Yellow River waters and the wide and broad plain will all come into your eyes. You can truly appreciate the magnificence of Huashan Mountain and enjoy the magical feelings as if you were on the heaven and walking on the cloud. The south side of the mountain is thousands meters of cliff, erect as if cut abruptly by knife. Under it there is deep cliff which completely cut off the Sangong Mountain and Sanfeng Mountain.
South Peak consists of one mountain with tops. The east top is called Pine Mountain while the west one is named Luoyan Mountain. Anther saying has that South Peak consists of three tops, which also concludes Dutiful Son Mountain in the west of Luoyan Mountain. In this way, Luoyan Mountain is the highest in the center with the Pine Mountain in the east and Dutiful Son Mountain in the west, forming a shape of three giants sitting on the chairs facing the north.
The origin of Luoyan Mountain is that the wild geese flying back always rest here. The highest part of Luoyan Mountain is also the highest top of Huashan Mountain. Everyone is proud of ever getting the top. You can see the inscriptions on the stones all around. There are many other scenic sites like Sky Pool, Black Dragon Pond and Auyu Immortal Shrine on the south west cliff. Pine Mountain is a little bit lower than Luoyan Mountain, but larger than it. The blue pines on mountain top can cover all the sky, so the mountain is called Pine Mountain. There is Baidi Temple, also called Golden Palace, which is the main temple of Huashan God Jintian Shaohao. Because the roof of the main palace is covered by iron tiles, people also call it Iron Tile Palace. There are a lot of scenic sites around the Pine Mountain such as Eight Diagrams Pool, South Sky Gate, Quanzhen Rock, Chaoyuan Hole, Eagle Wing Rock and Yanggong Pavilion and so on.
