Shanghai Municipal History Museum is the specialized museum to introduce the development history of Shanghai over the past century. It is situated in the Lingmi Hall of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Its display area is over 6,000 squares.
On May 12, it was officially opened. The museum is a creative history display which combined various elements as history, culture, appreciation, sightseeing and recreation. When you are walking through the museum, you would recall what the old Shanghai looked like and enjoy the culture of Shanghai. The museum focused on the ornamental aspect and visitors’ participation. It uses the display technique ‘melting objects in scene’ and high technical means, making the display objects, models, props, audio and video multimedia and light mixed together. The static display mainly use wax figures, relics and props; the dynamic display takes advantage of the combination of the real scene and movie. It looks very vivid. Through those methods people not only feel the historical and cultural heritage, but also the charm of the modern high technology. The precious relics, records, pictures with the help of advanced video and audio equipment vividly showed the history of the developments of Shanghai. The museum could divide into six parts – concessions, old Shanghai municipal buildings and streetscape, modern city economy, modern culture, city life and political situation. The museum displays the profound changes of Shanghai in the political, economic, cultural, social, life and other aspects comprehensively.
