Xi An Qinling Zoological Park 28km away from downtown Xi An is located on the north side of Qinling Mountain covering over 2000 mu. Opened on May 1 2005, it is a comprehensive park integrated scientific education, tourism, entertainment together with animal protection.  The park is divided into four sections, namely, Walking area, Herbivore area, Beast of prey area and Birdsong forest. Moreover, there are animal performing ground, young animal playground, pleasure ground, animal hospital, endangered species breeding center. For visitors here offers the cafe, cafeteria, garden, vacation village for their rest and relaxation. The park is a fine combination of man-made and natural landscape. The front gate of the park is the largest steel-work gate across the nation. There houses about 300 species of typical animals from different corners of the world totaling up to 10,000 animals including the endangered white tiger, white python, takin, panda, golden monkey and some other alien species. The animal exhibition area is falls into two sections: the walking area and car-riding area. Situated in the west of the park, the walking area covers 130,000 m2. In this area, about 260 species of animals are exhibited. Visitors can see the giant panda, golden monkey, sea lion, sea leopard and the largest living mammal on land–Asian elephant. The showy parrots are much more attractive to viewers. You will be amuzed a lot by the funny performance in the performing grounds. It is even possible for them to cuddle and stroke the little ones. Don’t worry if the park is too big to cover by walking. Visitors can take a shuttle bus or tour bus to take a ride. Restaurants, spa clubs, amusement parks, shopping center are also here for your convenience and relaxation!

Qinling Zoological Park stories

1.   Origin of the name “Inner Palace”

Qinling Zoological Park is located in the “backyard” of the several dynasties. In the Han Dynasty it was an imperial garden based on a hunting ground. Cuiwei Palace was thus built here as the summer resort for the aristocrats. Later in the Tang Dynasty the Emperor Tang Xuanzong praised the beauty of the place to his inner palace’s for the idyllic paradise-like landscape. It is called the “Inner Palace” afterwards.
