One of China’s major cities, home to just under 9 million people, Qingdao is a lovely city which is well worth a visit when you are on your china travel. It is located in eastern Shandong Province, Eastern China and is made up of seven districts plus Jinmo city, which has a population of about 4million. This beautiful city overlooks the Yellow Sea. Qingdao is a major seaport, naval base and industrial centre. It also brags the world’s largest sea bridge, the Qingdao Haiwan Bridge. This bridge links the main urban area of Qingdao with Huangdao District. I am sure most of you are familiar with Tsingtao beer, which is in fact brewed here in Qingdao. The city’s brewery is a must-see, if you’re a fan of fine beer. Book your trip with China Tours.
Tsingtao is the only beer I have been drinking during my time in China. I love it and I’m sure you will too. The beer is in fact part of Qingdao’s colonial legacy. The area was briefly a German colony from the late 19th Century to the early 20th, and thus it was the German settlers who founded the brewery in 1903. Tsingtao has now become the bestselling beer in China, and the brand, which is most widely, exported to other countries, and followed by Zhijan and Yanjing. Chinese beers often contain rice, sorghum and sometimes rye in addition to barely.
The brewery also makes other beers, mostly catered to the local market. These include: Tsingtao Dark Beer, which is a bit stronger than the original. Others include Tsingtao Spirulina Green Beer (contains spirulina which is supposed to be a healthy additive) and Tsingtao Green Beer.
Qingdao also houses a Beer Museum. Tsingtao Beer Museum, which has an area of 6,000 square meters, with the whole wall built at frontage, which was reconstructed in the European classical architecture style. It is divided into three visit areas: the area of history and culture, produce techniques area, and multi-purpose area. The area of history and culture is the most important part of the Tsingtao Beer Museum. Here, you can learn about the mystic origin of beer, the long history of Tsingtao Beer, Tsingtao’ s honors, Qingdao International Beer Day, celebrities’ visits to Tsingtao. There are many things in this area, for example, the cultural relics, pictures and data, which were, collected from Europe and Tsingtao beer’s objects in the different periods. However your whole day won’t just be about the history and culture. I am told that there is a complimentary beer tasting session included with the price of your ticket.
However, there is much more to the city than just beer. This is a city full of history and culture. A lot of the colonial buildings are still around. If you want to go for a brisk walk, the famous pier, Zhan Qiao is worth a visit to. Ba Da Guan is for those who are fond of architecture. It is an older area of the town with some surviving German and Japanese architecture. The city also has some beautiful skyscrapers.
