The temperature of Guangxi Mountain Maoer Nature Reserve drops with the rise of altitude, forming growth terrain of different types of plants. Evergreen broad-leaved forest and evergreen man-made coniferous forest are growing in areas of the altitude between 400 to 1200 meters. In areas with the altitude of 1200-1800 meters, one can find mixed forest of deciduous leaves and evergreen broad-leaves. This is a hybridization area of varieties of trees of subtropical zone and temperate zone. In areas with the altitude of 1800-2000 meters, grows the mixed forest of evergreen broad leaves and needle leaves. Mountaintop bush wood coppices are growing in areas with the altitude of over 2000 meters. The total area of the forest zone is 400,000 mu (26, 800 hectares). Tourists can enjoy hot springs, waterfalls, bizarre mountain peaks and unique rocks in Mountain Maoer, as well as historical remains of the Red Army.

 Mountain Maoer is the best area for the up-growth of subtropical evergreen broad leaves, having tropical and subtropical plants that belong to 219 families, 782 categories and 2120 species. Those belonging to the first-level protection plants include Breschneidera, TaxusMaiei, Ginkgo, Yew and Emmenopterys Henryi; the second-level protection plants include Liriodendron Chinense, Tsuga Longibracteata, Fokienia, Tsoongiodendron Odorum and Beech; the third-level protection plants include Tsuga Tchekiangensis, Sixangular Dysosma Rhizome and Halesia Macgregonii. There are 11 kinds of endemic plants, 26 kinds of Paratype samples, 20 kinds belong to Guangxi New Record and 566 species of insects.
