The Pheonix Ridge scenic zone is very interesting. It is called the ‘green lung’ of Beijing. Peaks and forests are surrounded by green rivers, unique flowers and herbs. The air of this scenic zone is four times purer than downtown Beijing while the content of negative oxygen ion in the air is 150 times more than that of downtown Beijing. The average relative humidity from April to October is 58%. The average temperature of spring and autumn is 23 ℃.
The Pheonix Ridge scenic zone has natural views all year round. The sunshine is terrific. There are fruit trees growing along the mountains for example watermelons, apples, pears and peaches. The air is clean with the earth’s aroma. Leaves of pines and cypress trees drop in to the clean waters. The mountain peaks rise and fall making the scenary beautiful and dramatic. There are numerous temples for example Longquan Temple and Shifo Palace. Forests in the Pheonix Ridge are thick and green. Some of trees are so tall and old that they are the most well-known ones in Beijing.
The Pheonix Ridge is a terrific natural place for escaping from the hot summer and recouperating. It is a paradise for travel, holiday, sight-seeing and to get in touch with nature.
Best Time to Visit Pheonix Ridge
- If you go to the Pheonix Ridge, you had better wear sportswear, sneakers, and bring a towel, water and snacks. If you go from the north part of the ridge, you can only arrive at Moya Caved Stone where there are often some people doing group exercises.
- The Pheonix Ridge is 1250 metres high above sea level. There are stairs named ‘Tianti’. Travelers can take the stairs to climb the mountains. It is very safe if you go up one by one.
- It is recommended to eat something before climbing. You can also find a cool place to rest when you get to the top of the mountain. The higher place is more quiet, for there are fewer people.
- It saves time if you go down the same route as you came up. If you go down the other side, it will take two to three hours. Luckily the mountain slope is not very steep. Remember to take the path with stone steps. If you don’t see the steps or the signs, it means you are going the wrong way.
- Don’t lose the ticket. The number of the management office is printed on the back of the ticket. Find a place with signal to make the call if you need any help.

How to get to the Pheonix Ridge
- Take bus 346 or 77 to get to the Pheonix Ridge. The trip is 27 kilometres and it takes 1hour and 20 minutes. The ticket of bus 346 is 2.5 yuan. The ticket of bus 77 is 4 yuan.
- Take the train 6411 at 6:25 AM and get off at the Diegezhuang stop.
How to get to Baihujian Scenic Zone
- Take bus 330 from Summer Palace to the Xixiaoying stop and transfer to bus 911 to get to the Baihudong stop.
- Take bus 914 to the Yangfang stop and transfer to a minibus.
