Oriental Pearl is a short title of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Situated on the bank of Huangpu River and started on June30th, 1991, the construction project was finished on October1st, 1994. Chinese Chairman Jiang Zemin once inscribed for the tower in 1994. As the new tourist landmark of Shanghai, it is an attraction that assembles television transmission, entertainment and sightseeing. Both the 263m high sight—seeing floor and the 350m high Space Capsule are good places for having a bird’s—eye view of the entire city. On the 267m high place, the second highest revolving restaurant of Asia is situated there. An exhibition hall, which displays the epitome of Shanghai historical development, is constructed on the ground floor. Standing among the modern buildings in Lujiazui, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the International Architecture Group Exhibition on Bund enhance each other’s beauty. 11 spheres in different sizes are well spaced and eye-catching, stretching to the sky from the grass. Depending on the
express lift which shuttles in three posts with diameters of 9m and the first 360 degree full-transparent three-track sightseeing lift in the world, the Oriental Pearl provides a chance for the visitors to appreciate the infinite sceneries brought by the modern technology. Over one thousand kinds of exquisite and unique keepsakes are displayed inside the counters of each sightseeing floor. Each year, the Oriental Pearl receives millions of visitors from all over the world. The comprehensive attraction has become the symbol construction and been ranked as the ten new landscapes. In 2001, owing to its high quality service, the Oriental Pearl was listed into 4A attractions of China.
