The Gemu Goddess Mountain is also called the Lion Mountain. With the height of 3754.7 metres, it is the tallest peak in the Lugu Lake scenic zone. Travellers can start at the Old Road in the back of the Dazunaxi Village, pass the Boxi wood and arrive at the Goddess Temple and the Goddess Cave. In the legend of Mosuo, this mountain was where the Mosuo Goddess stayed. The Lugu Lake is in a shape of half moon. You need to get to the top of the Goddess Peak to see the whole view of the Lugu Lake. When the Zhuanshan holiday comes, the Mosuo villagers all go to the peak to worship the Goddess. They wear colorful clothes. Their team seems like a gorgeous long dragon from the peak to the foot of the mountain. The villagers sing songs for the Goddess. Among more than a hundred famous mountains in China, the Gemu Goddess Mountain is well-known for its special holiday, the worshipping team and beautiful songs.

The American scholar Joseph Rock describes the Gemu goddess Mountain in the book Old Naxi Kingdom in the southwest China that, “The Lion Mountain is the most famous landscape in Yongning. The mountain looks so like a sleeping lion in the green water. The head of the lion faces the lake. The ranges are the lions’ paws. ”
