Elephant Eyes Rock

On August 30, 2011, in China Attractions, Nature Scenery, by Jack Li

Situated between the south and north of the Elephant Trunk Hill, the elephant rock has an area of 274sqm and the length of 52.8m.  This 2m high and 5m to 10m wide rock was formed earlier than the Shuiyue Cave (Water Moon Cave). It was named according to its location which was just in the eyes of the ‘Elephant’ (the hill).  Visitors can reach the rock coming from the south of the hill; going across the rock, they can get to the top of the hill. There is no way to reach the northern eye from the mountain.  Both of the two eyes (holes) are perfect to appreciate the beautiful scenery.  From the left-hand side, the Lijiang Hotel and the panorama of the city and the mountain come in sight.  From the right-hand side, the shadows of small sailing boat floating between the mountain and the tower create a picturesque scene.
