Situated in the mouth of Changjiang River, Chongming Island is the third largest island of China. It is acknowledged as the portal of Changjiang River and Yingzhou in East Sea. Best Time to Visit Chongming Island
Belonging to semi tropics oceanic monsoon climate, each Chongming Island’s season has its own characteristic. Influenced by the warm and wet climate, the best time to visit Chongming Island is from May to November. Though throughout June and July there is plenty of rainfalls, June and August are hot periods. From May to November, fresh air, luxuriant flowers and trees are all over the Island.

If you are on a one day trip in Chongming Island, first of all, you cannot miss the bird and sunrise watching. The best place for bird watching is Dongtan Migratory Birds Natural Reserve. Go there in the early morning. At the same time, you can appreciate the sunrise at the East Sea. Another activity is stars watching. Because of the fresh air and light pollution, watching moon and stars on the sky above Chongming Island is a nice and romantic form of leisure. Finally, you can visit the farm house, where you can experience the customs and taste local specialties.

How to Get to Chongming Island
Because Chongming Island is developed as a scenic spot, there are many passenger ships and some speed hydrofoils on the way from Shanghai to Baoyang Wharf.
Self—drive: Shidong Wharf is a ferry for person and cars. You can cross the river with your car to Nanmen Wharf if your intention is travelling. It will take you 1h and 15mins. The charging is according to the cars’ weights. For example, a Santana will cost you 50RMB. Take you license and putting on much closes in case you cannot buy the inside ticket.
By bus:
Take travel line5: Eight Thousand Stadium——People Square——Jiangwan Town ——Baoyang Road Wharf.
Take Shenchong line: Zhongshan North Road——Shidong Wharf——Dongping National Forest Park.
Take bus line 51: Laobei station——Wusong Wharf or Baoyang Wharf.
