Changbai Mountains

Changbai Mountains is one of them; they source of the Tumen, Yalu, and Songhua rivers, which make it one of the most beautiful areas in China along with their amazing wildlife. Changbai Mountains – the name literally means “Perpetually White Mountain Region” in Mandarin Chinese. They prove to be of economic help to the Chinese revenue stream as well, due to the vast amounts of ginseng which grows there. As well as the tourists which the amazing sight generates. There are so many attractions within the mountains themselves such as the hot springs. The springs, covers an area of over a thousand square meters and they lie to the north of the Tianchi Lake and some even as deep as nine hundred meters below the waterfall. The water temperature of some of the springs can be as high as 82ºC (180ºF).

Heavenly lake is also something which is spectacular to see, The lake lies on the top of Baitou Mountain, which is the highest peak of the Changbai Mountains, and are located between the China-Korea border. On average for more than half the year, the lake is covered with ice, but during summer time boats are available to hire out, and fishing is good. The delicious fish dishes prepared in the lakeside hotels are definitely something that sound be tasted.

A nature preserve has been created here in order to protect the area’s animals and plants. With the nature preserves in Wolong of Sichuan province and Dinghu Mountain of Guangdong Province, it has become a base for international scientific research into China’s indigenous wildlife. With a well-preserved natural environment and ecosystem, it is rich in biological species characteristic of mountainous regions.

There are more than eighty kinds of trees, including Changbai larches, spruces and Korean pines. There are also over three hundred kinds of medicinal plants like ginseng, Asia bell (Codonopsis pilosula), and Tian Ma (Gastrodia elata). Most of the Chinese ginseng and ginseng medicine which are exported to foreign markets are processed and produced from the Changbai Mountains. There are so many rare animals living in the preserve which include but not limited to; northeast Chinese tiger, leopard, lynx sika, sable.

Changhai Mountains can be reached by train from Changchun via Tonghua. All kinds of tourist facilities are available here.
