It is tremendously difficult for water transport because the waterfall is high, the groove at the bottom is narrow and deep, the waters run rapidly. In the past if boats sail from Hukou to downstream have to stop at the Dragon King Temple. The goods have to be unloaded and transported to downstream docks by labor hands or animals. The emptied boats have to be dragged out of water and set on wood rods for an easier tow. The boat will be reput into the water at the downstream where the waters are smoother, uploaded with its goods and continue its sail. There usually need hundreds of people to tow and push the boat for it is extremely heavy. Though there are wood rods under the boat when town, the river bank is still scratched and scraped by the iron nails on the boat bottom. However, at that time towing the boats on land between the upstream and downstream docks is the best option given to the conditions available. Unfortunately, with the rapid development of the highway and railway transportation as well as the build of Yellow River Bridge, this ancient and primitive way of transportation has been abandoned. There only left the scratches on the riverbank for visitors to imagining this unique and local-color feature.
