The Jade Emperor Hall(simplified Chinese:玉皇殿; traditional Chinese:玉皇殿; pinyin:Yùhuáng Diàn; literally “the Jade Emperor Hall”) is used to enshrine the Jade Emperor. According to the doctrine of Taoism, the Jade Emperor is the most senior God of the world, just as Jesus in Christianity.
Inside the Jade Emperor Hall, there is a huge wooden sculpture of this powerful God. This 1.8-meter-high Jade Emperor wears a colorful and florid cassock, with a pearl crown on his head, and a Jade tablet in his hand, sitting majestically in the emperor’s chair, watching the world go by. A lot of streamers are hung beside the shrine, all with embroidered seal character of “寿”(literally “long live”)on them. That is why these streamers are called Baishou Streamer(literally” streamer made up of hundreds of “寿”). On the left and right side of the Jade Emperor sit his two servants and ministers. Also, you can see claborate-style paintings on silk hanging on the wall of the hall. They represent the figures of the Sagittarius God, the God of the Big Dipper, 36 generals of the Jade Emperor, and 28 God of Constellation open to the tourists. All these artwork was produced during the Ming Dynasty(AD1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty(AD1636-1912).
