Situated in Yangshuo County, Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang nationality autonomous region, the Big Banyan is over 1500 years old and measures 17 meters in height and over 7 meters in circumference. The shade of the big old banyan covers more than one mu (about 667 m2). Such a weather-beaten banyan is regarded as a holy tree by locals. The tree appears in Third Sister Liu, a film in which Brother Aniu courts Third Sister Liu by catching an embroidered ball thrown by the girl. Tourists from both China and abroad who come to Yangshuo for sightseeing will enjoy the marvelous sight of the Big Banyan.

Best Time to Visit the Big Banyan:

The best time to visit scenic spots in Guangxi is from April to October. The season from April to June is perfect for visiting the Big Banyan because the weather is wet and rainy, presenting visitors with the best opportunity to behold the beauty of clear waters and green mountains. From July to September, temperatures are relatively high; the shady Big Banyan will provide visitors with shade and act as a natural cooler.

How to get to the Big Banyan:

6 kilometers away from the county center and 70 kilometers away from the downtown area of Guilin, the Big Banyan, an important part of the famous Lijiang River scenic area, is at the south end of Yulong River. Every ten minutes a shuttle bus or battery-powered vehicle departs from Yangshuo county center to Gaotian district, taking visitors directly to the Big Banyan.
