Exploring China is an exciting adventure!  However many tourists are apprehensive about the food because it is so different to what they are used to. No need to panic! There are many different types of Chinese food; it can vary from spicy dishes originating from the west to the sweet taste of eastern meals. With all this choice you are bound to find something delicious to eat. The food found in China varies enormously because of the numerous climates and historical backgrounds. So whether you are want to Travel to Beijing or Travel to Shanghai you must experience the different tastes that China has to offer!

The subtropical climate in Southern China allows it to produce fresh ingredients. This is seasoned with light flavour; including the use of peanut oil or soy sauce. This style of food is known as Cantonese and has a reputation for being exotic because of the extensive use of seafood. To taste these amazingly fresh foods go to Guangzou, in Guangdong to experience real Cantonese cuisine.

Alternatively, if you have a passion for spicy food travel to Western China, where red chilli peppers are widely used to add heat to cuisine. As well as the warmth of the food in this region, the climate itself experiences high temperatures. However if you prefer milder meals try the other traditional dishes, such as tea-smoked duck. In comparison to Southern China, this area is known for its use of rich and strong flavours.

Unlike the other regions where rice is widely used, Northern China is famous for its grain-based food such as dumplings, pancakes and noodles. Jiaozi is commonly made in this province and is a type of dumpling that is filled with numerous meats and vegetables. These are traditionally prepared and eaten in Chinese homes to celebrate China New Year or family reunions. Other meals include mutton and lamb, which are regularly used in hot pots because of the Muslim background. Dishes from the north are often oily and highly flavoured to ensure people survive the extremely cold winters.

No trip to China is complete without a trip to the capital city of Beijing, in the northeast. Travel to Beijing to savour the taste of the internationally recognised Beijing Peking Duck. This meat is rich and has with a crispy skin that is complemented by pancakes, shredded salad and Hoisin sauce.

Tourists also love to visit the modern city of Shanghai in the Southern area of China. This region traditionally produces sweet and oily food, however there is a European influence deeply embedded in its history. This has encouraged foreign foods such as French pastries to the city. Therefore ‘Shanghainese’ food has the widest range of choice for foreigners. Shanghai has countless types of food which travellers must savour.

China has a lot to offer its visitors no matter what their interest is. There are major historical sites such as the terracotta warriors in Xi’an or the Great Wall of China. However nothing will take your breath away more than the cuisine, as this alone is well worth the long flight to China. Especially when you book your flight with Air China, for a very reasonable price.
