Beijing Badaling Wildlife Zoo is the largest upland wildlife zoo in China. The zoo totals in size to around 6000 m
u (402 hectares) and is home to around ten thousand wildlife animals consisting of one hundred different species. The zoo is located at the foot of the world-renown Badaling Great Wall and is conveniently close to Badaling Express. The transportation to the zoo is very effiecient with it only taking 40 minutes to arrive at from downtown. The zoo can be visited for a number of different reasons and occasions, varying from: simply watching animals, spending your holidays, visiting on school trips to informative trips to educate on environmental protection.
While wandering along travel routes, entering mountains and forests; you are promised to see typical animals from different parts of the world. Badaling boasts the biggest pride of African lions in China; alongside the White tiger from America, majestic-looking Manchurian tigers, giant raccoons, petite sunbears, our national treasure pandas, golden monkeys and nippons. Not to mention even African giraffes, Australian kangaroos and so on.
The landscape of the zoo is breathtaking with the famously high south and low north; the scenery is so rich in layers with magnificent mountains. Not to mention the unique mountain ridge, vegetation, water body, astronomical phenomena and wildlife forms, all creating the charming natural sites. The park includes: a wildlife touring area, mountain forest sight-seeing area, conservatory ecology area, ancient culural area and recreation area. In the east and south of the park, mountains are very high and beautiful. The old Great Wall lies on the mouta
in, as a huge dragon stretches towards distant places.
There are also beautiful flowers and fruits in the mountain, making tourists feel as though they have entered a real life fairytale. The greening rate of the park is 92% , the tourist attractions are richly endowed by nature and is often referred to as a natural oxygen bar”.
The forest is luxuriantly green in summer while fiery-red in autumn. There are 75 Mountain peak, which have an altitude of 588 meters to 855.3 meters, 41 of which are beyond 700 meters. From the top of one mountain, you are able to overlook many of the other mountains. This area is often referred to as a paradise of wildlife, characterized by the leaping frogs, singing birds and hovering eagles; compared to recent years where the habitats of animals have and are being seriously damaged.
The park hosts many opportunities for interaction with the animals, from throwing food at the beats or gettingup close with the more meek animals. At the Fangzhou Square, you can either have a rest and enjoy the beauty of mountains or watch “The Peacock Files to Southeast” and enjoy the amazing sights of nature. Or visit the “Ferity World”, where you can learn the process of running wild and understand the implication of “survival of the fittest”.
The winding old Great Wall surrounding the park, the relics of firing bricks and the entrance pass of Li Zhicheng make you feel the significance of history. After all what’s more mysterious than the legend of Sakyamuni Stone Buddha.
