When you travel to China, make sure you travel to Beijing and make the effort to observe and admire one of the main attractions and tourist areas in Beijing, especially when visited during the autumn.

Fragrant Hill is a public park which can be found in the Haidian District situated at the bottom of the western mountains. Fragrant Hill is a mixture of natural ine-cypress forest, persimmon trees, hills with maple trees and smoke trees, as well as having landscaped areas with traditional architecture and cultural relics. From the end of September to the beginning of November, it is suggested this is the best time to see the park in all its glory.  The name ‘Fragrant Hill’ stemmed from the park’s highest peak. It is called Xianglu Feng and it is here that there are two large stones that resemble incense burners resulting in the name Fragrant Hill.

The park was initially built in 1186 during the Jin Dynasty. Fragrant Hill was then expanded on during both the Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty to the size that it is today. This park is extremely popular in the autumn mainly due to the fact that the natural scenery turns red due to the fiery red smoke tree leaves which cover the mountain side. It is for this reason that thousands of tourists flock here to ride in the cable car to see the hills. The grand opening of the annual Red Leaf Festival of Beijing is help here as well. If you don’t mind large crowds then this is a must-see attraction!

There are two main routes through the park that you can take. One of the routes will allow you to see Spectacles Lake and the bridge, the study of Reading Heart and the bright temple. The other route’s main attractions is the tranquillity green lake, Shuangqing Villa, fragrant temple and of course the Incense Burner Peak.

The temple of Azure Clouds can be found just outside the north gate of the Fragrant Hill Park as well.

So why not book your china flights today and make sure you get to see this breathtaking public park!
