Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center wants to educate the public on how to protect the wild creatures and their environment. The Research Center opened its door in 1993. The Research Center created a natural habit so that they can breed the pandas. They did this by creating a natural scenery and landscapes. They wanted to create a wonderful and humane living environment so that the panda could grow. The main objective of the Giant Panda research is to help prepare the pandas for their release in the wild.
The Research Center also cares for other rare and endangered wild life such as the red pandas, black necked cranes, white storks
plus much more. The center covers 92 acres. You will be able to see bright flowers, verdant bamboo, and breathe flesh air. You can visit the different facilities for the giant pandas-fodder room, sleeping quarters, and medical station.
Plus you can also visit the Panda Museum. Here you can interactive and have a learning experience. The Researchers created the interactive learning experience for the fact that they wanted the visitors to understand the depth of research they are doing and help them understand that they can also help with endangered species survival.
Pandas Facts
The Panda has a bear like body, the panda as black fur on its shoulders, eyes, ears and muzzle the rest of the body fur is snowy white. The fur provides camouflage in the snowy and rocky habitats. Pandas have a short tail, round shape ears, heavy physique and a big head. In China the panda is called Da Xiong Mon- meaning ‘giant bear cat’ because the panda eyes have cat like vertical slits as
pupils. When the panda eat it sits upright so that its paws are free to eat their food. The Panda height is only 2-3 feet. The male weighs 250 pounds and the female weighs 220 pounds. The panda diet is entirely of two types of bamboo the umbrella and arrow bamboo. They also eat grass and small rodents. A neat fact about pandas is that they do not hibernate since they can get their food all year long. Females only gives birth to two offspring generally one will survive. Baby cubs remain with their mother for 1 ½ to 3 years.
To visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center will cost you 58RMBs. The Research center is open from 8am to 6pm daily. If you want to see the panda being active then you need to plan on going in the morning. The pandas are more active at breakfast then at any other time.
