Travels Tips for Surviving Long-time Airplanes

Have you ever experienced 12-hour long airplane flights? If so, you would have the same horrible feelings as me. My first long airplane travel was from Shanghai to Toronto which lasted for 15 hours on Air China. At first I didn’t think this would be a problem for me, because I used to be “trapped” in a narrow space on train for 18 hours at least twice a year. In my opinion, the service and environment on China Flights are much better than trains, so I prepared to enjoy a comfortable long journey. However, I suffered a lot from this long travel and took about a whole week to recover from this. After this, I began to be aware of collecting travel tips for the long airplane flights.

Unless you are taking the luxury planes operated by Emirates Airline, these tips below will inspire you more or less, sooner or later.

1.Reserve a right seat. In order to stretch out your legs as much as you can, an aisle or exit row seat should be considered. Some people may think of the window seats for good views or sleep. But most of the time, the window shades are required to be closed on a long-time airplane travel. And for a good sleep, you may choose other tools to gain better effects rather than the window seats. Why do I always not recommend window seats, especially for a long travel? The most important reason is that you need some walks or exercise, but the window seats are inconvenient for you need to pass two passengers to go out and in.

2.Carry on something for entertaining. Although some of the airplanes have the built-in systems for movies and music, the selections can be poor or not your favors. So bring an iPod, iPad, laptop or PSP with you and try to download some of the latest songs, movies or novels before your departure.

3. Try to bring some your own food or snacks on board. Usually meals provided by the airlines are not my preferences and sometimes are even worse. I am not so picky on food, but I always feel sick after several hours on planes. So one of my travel habits is to bring some appetizers and yummy snacks. I also put a couple of fruits or vegetables, such as apples or celery sticks, to help my bowl movements. One thing to remember about the fresh fruits is that you would better eat them up before landing on another country. Otherwise, you may have some problems at the custom offices.

4. Dress appropriately. It makes you feel longer in a long trip, if you are in an uncomfortable dress. Although it is said that the non-binding clothing will make your body swelling, I would recommend the relatively loose pants like ones for yoga or exercises. Also the loose fitting shoes and a pair of socks will be ideal for your feet.

5.Do your best to have some exercises. Try to stretch out your legs and lift them every 2 hours. If the space is limited, then you can bend your knees and put your feet on the seat. When your feet are on the ground, circle your ankle clockwise and reverse. Do not forget some head movements and learn some simple massage for your head and necks.

6.Bring a travel pillow for good sleeps. If I can only pick one thing to be carried on the plane, there is no doubt that I willchoose the travel pillow. This helped me to survive from the 11-hour greyhound and every long time airplane travel. This wonderful pillow supports your neck and prevents the bad effects by this sleeping position.

Hope these tips can add more joyful experiences for your China Tours.
