Beijing is famous not only for its scenic spots and historical sites, but also for its various kinds of delicious food. Beijing cuisine has experienced a long history and gained worldwide reputation for its variety and uniqueness. Those who are on Beijing Tours are greatly encouraged to have a taste of Beijing’s traditional food. In the following I’d like to introduce some famous restaurants and their specialties. I have tasted some of them, but not all. Maybe I can taste the others with people who Travel to Beijing and have an interest in old Beijing food like me.
1. QUANJUDE Roast Duck Restaurant
QUANJUDE, a renowned brand of China, was established in 1864 and has experienced a sustained development. With its peculiar roast technique and outstanding quality it was awarded the title of “China Renowned Trademark” in January of 1999. Its most famous dish is Quanjude Roast Duck.
Quanjude Roast Duck is well known all around the world for its wonderful appearance, crispy skin, tender meat and fragrance.The duck is usually sliced into pieces and then we can taste one piece at a time with sweet sauce jam, scallion, cucumber and lotus leaf-shaped cake. It is really enjoyable.
Other notable dishes are Boiled Duck Liver, Mustard Duck Web and Quick Fried Duck Heart, etc. They are all characterized by tender texture, fragrant smell and delicious taste.

2. Kaorouji—a Muslim restaurant
In 1848, Kaorouji was established near Silver Ingot Bridge (Yingding Qiao) in the picturesque Shichahai area. It is a Muslim restaurant specializing in roasting meat.
The restaurant is an ancient building with its own special style. Its roasting technique was listed in non-material cultural heritages of Beijing in 2006. There are eight mainly different flavors: tough, tender, singed, burned, sweet, salty and spicy.
Main dishes: Beef chop suey, sea cucumber, mandarin fish, polygonatum fried with bull hoof, fried prawn and roasted mutton. Each of these dishes will make your mouth full of water and bring you unprecedented tastes.

3. Haiwanju—the best place for old Beijing fried sauce noodles
The most notable specialty of Haiwanju is old Beijing fried sauce noodles which is a northern Chinese dish consisting of thick wheat noodles topped with a mixture of ground pork stir-fried with fermented soybean paste. In
Beijing cuisine, yellow soybean paste is used, the soybean paste is stir fried without oil. Some Chinese restaurants may also call it “brown meat sauce noodles” or “noodles with fried bean and meat sauce”. Western people may call it as “Chinese spaghetti”. People say the taste of fried sauce noodles bring them back home. For the real taste it’s better for you to try yourself.

4. Beijing Huguo Temple Snacks
Last October my friend and I visited this restaurant. We are amazed at so many snacks there, and most of them taste sweet. We had been familiar with some snacks such as Shaobing(clay oven rolls), Chunjuan(spring rolls), Matuan(glutinous rice sesame balls), but there were so many creative names that we had never heard before such as Lvdagunr which is made of glutinous
rice rolls with sweet bean flour, Xizibing which is a cake with the Chinese character for happiness on it, Douzhir (fermented bean drink), Aiwowo(steamed rice cakes with sweet stuffing) and Wandouhuang (sweet pease pudding ), etc. if you take a Travel to Beijing , you mustn’t miss these Chinese traditional snacks.
