Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province, China, and has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture. It has also been awarded the title of 2008 Habitat Scroll of Honor of China, Special Award of UN Habitat Scroll of Honor and National Civilized City.

Purple-Gold Mountain or Zijin Mountain is located on the eastern side of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Its peaks are often found enveloped in mysterious purple and golden clouds at dawn and dusk, hence comes its name “Purple Gold Mountain”. A small mountain with an area about 20 square kilometres (4,900 acres), Purple-Gold Mountain is a mountain related to many historical events of both ancient and modern China. More than 200 heritage and scenic tourist sites are located in or around the mountain, among which include three national historical sites, nine provincial historical sites, and 33 prefectural historical sites.
Purple-Gold Mountain has 621 species of vascular plants, from 383 genera, 118 families (including 78 cultivated species). Located in or close to the hillside of Purple-Gold Mountain, there are about a dozen national research institutes and universities.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum (中山陵) is situated at the foot of the second peak of Mount Zijin (Purple Mountain) in Nanjing, China. Construction of the tomb started in January 1926 and was finished in spring of 1929. The architect was Lu Yanzhi, who died shortly after it was finished.
