Or you will surely miss some delicious snakes for breakfast. Even though there are many delicious Chinese snacks in China Hotels, but I think there are more special snacks waiting to be discovered.
1.
Fermented Bean Milk (douzhi/豆汁)
Fermented bean milk is the symbol of Beijing snake of no doubt. Do not belittle it because it was first made about 1000 ears ago and it is deeply loved by local Beijingers.
Comparing to soy-bean milk, fermented bean milk is made of mung beans instead of soy beans, and it is a kind of fermented drink. It looks grey-green. For most people , it needs some courage to have the first taste for the fermented bean milk taste both sour and sweet. Some people find it impossible to have one more taste because of it’s special flavor. While others want to have a bowl of fermented bean milk every morning because of it’s flavor, too! It is said that it’s rich in protein, vitamin C.
2. Sweetened Fried Bread Twists(Youtiao / 油条,or Jiaoquan/焦圈)
Youtiao is always served with warm mungbean milk in the morning. Most of the time, they look like long fried bread stick with color of golden-brown. The way of making Jiaoquan is almost the same, the only difference is :Jiaoquan is shaped into a circle while Youtiao is shaped into a stick. But they both taste crispy and smell nice.

Go Believe(Goubuli baozi/包子)
Baozi is a kind of steamed bun filled with meat. Baozi are served individually and are easy to take away as a common snack to serve in Beijing. Chinese people speak highly of it for these reason. And one of the most famous kind of Baozi is called Goubuli and it comes from Tianjin. Gou means once there was a diligent apprentice whose name was Gouzi. Buli means ignorance—-He was such a hard working person that he always focused on his work and sometimes ignored his customer. Then, people call the food he made “Goubuli”, and to his surprise, this name spread like wildfire. And it has an English name ”Go Believe” from then on.
Today, Baozi are always served in a steamer and a steamer usually contains about 10 pieces.
4. Rolling Donkey (Ludagun, 驴打滚)
Ludagun is a kind of Islamic snack in Beijing. In fact, it is a cake made of bean- flour and it is famous for it’s way of making it. We need to prepare the stuffing (usually sweetened bean paste or brown sugar)first ,then wrap the stuffing in a peace of sticky dough and cut it into blocks. Then comes the most important step: roll the blocks in soya bean-flour. That is the reason why it has got such a strange name.

Pea Cake (Wandouhuang, 豌豆黄)
Comparing with Rolling Donkey, the Chinese name of Pea Cake can be easily understood: In Chinese, Wandou means pea and huang just means this cake looks yellow. Pea cake is a snack in spring (that is the season when pea ripe), White-pea flour is first mixed with water, cooked over gentle heat and then fried with sugar. So it may be a little bit sticky.It is one of the well-known imperial snacks in ancient China.
Beijing is famous for it’s all kinds of snacks and has developed a kind of “Snack Culture”.
