Historically, Wing Chun has been passed down from teacher to student verbally rather than through various documents. This makes it much harder for the martial art form to be mastered or to clarify the actual Wing Chun creation. In order to assert a specific technique to Wing Chun, some learners have attempted to discern the origins of Wing Chun by determining the specific purpose of its techniques.
