China Southern Airlines was awarded the “Best Business Class Airline in China” at the annual TTG China Travel Award ceremony held in Shanghai in 2008. That was the third time for China Southern to receive a TTG travel award since it was honored the “Best China Airline” by TTG Asia magazine in 2002 and 2004.
With more and more visitors home and abroad coming into beauty spots in China, tourist service seems to not fully satisfy the increasing demand of customers. Fortunately, China Southern Airlines (CSA) was the first carrier exclusively launching high-level business class in mainland China this year, and aimed to attract business or commerce visitors by distinctive services including value added service, which gave a fresh impetus to China travel. It is said that the advanced business class made a larger fore-and-after clearance, from 31 inches to 37 inches ,and 40% bigger than common business class, which is easier for passengers to extend legs horizontally. According to the size of each type of airplanes,CAS had added 24 to 53 seats for plane remodelment by setting up compartments, which provided more independent room and more spacious seats for customers.
The general manager of CSA joint-stock company said ,over 300 airplanes were planned to gradually change into those with superior performance, and the number of advanced business class had amounted to 7000 in CSA. Till now ,the first new model airplanes had been put into operation within three periods in flight line to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Air fare for advanced economy class equals the full price for economy class, and in promotion period Mingzhu members flying economy class could have 10% premium promotion.
According to introduction, high-level economy class could offer more personalized service. For instance, stewards will distribute portable water to tourists before taking off, and provide blankets, newspapers, snack food, and etc. Passengers flying in advanced economy class have the special service such as boarding priority, preferential payment for luggage, and precedence of changing class without any payment under flight overbooking. Additionally, CSA supplies boarding service in part of flight lines for customers in first class, business class and high-level economy class.
Advanced economy class is commonly seen among international airlines such as “exalted economy class” from Air France Group and “special seats for economy class” from K.L.M. Royal Airlines. Experts at China Management School of Civil Aviation maintain that the introduction to high-level economy class of China Flights is owing to the need of market; on one hand, with the income level increasingly higher, most tourists are able and willing to spend much more money on superior as well as distinctive service; on the other hand, business visitors with less sensitivity in air fare are a potential part of customer market for high-level economy class.
