We all love a good movie from time to time but did you know that some of your favorite blockbusters may have been filmed on the bustling streets of Beijing. Lets take a look at the motion pictures which took Hollywood to the Hutongs!
1. The Karate Kid (2010)
Following the story of 12 year old Dre Parker who moves to Beijing with his mother this feel good flick explores cultural difference, Kung Fu and ensuring class bullies get their comeuppance all captured against the backdrop of our vibrant capital.
2. Looking for Jackie (2009)
Staring Jackie Chan as himself, a young boy learns to fight Kung Fu style from the master himself in Beijing discovering some life lessons along the journey.
3. The Kite Runner (2007)
This Oscar nominated movie, which was partly filmed in Beijing, follows the story of Amir who after spending years in California returns to his homeland of Afghanistan to help his old friend Hassan, whose son is in trouble.
4. The Painted Veil (2006)
Filmed partly in Beijing, Golden Globe winner The Painted Veil follows the story of an English couple in the 1920′s who get married for the wrong reasons, experience infidelity and discover purpose and meaning in their relationship against a raw and beautiful landscape.
5. Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2 (2003 & 2004)
Hell bent on revenge Uma Thurman plays a murderous bride in this Golden Globe nominated thriller filmed on the streets of Beijing.
6. Blooming Flowers in Springtime (2002)
A young deaf mute couple experience trials and tribulations bringing up their hearing son in this exquisitely touching short story based in Beijing.
7. Beijing Bicycle (2001)
Country boy Guei’s bicycle is stolen in Beijing igniting a journey of stubbornness, potential humiliation and machismo in a quest to reclaim whats rightfully his.
8. The Gate of Heavenly Peace (1995)
Filmed in Beijing The Gate of Heavenly Peace explores the spirit of the student movement using original footage to capture the six weeks preceding the Tiananmen massacre.
