Things to do in HouHai Park:

With the amount of chic restaurants and bars surrounding HouHai Park, there are still lots to do around the park. There is the Hutong Tours by bicycle rickshaw and the prices are about 150 Yuan per person. There is no need to book ahead as there are lots of them around and they would find you. Another cheaper option is to tour by foot, particularly in the alleys west of HouHai Lake, which is home to some of Beijing’s best traditional stone housing. You could also use the bicycle to tour the park by yourself or with one or two of your friends as some of their bicycles are built for two or three person. The bikes are only about 10 Yuan per person, per hour and you can rent them from a stall near the Han Cing Restaurant. The lakes are also fun during every season as you could go skating and sledding during winter when the ice is nice and hard.  You can rent them in the same location and it is about 10 Yuan for half day. You can also row around in a rowboat from HouHai Chuantai, which is just near Lotus Lane for about 20-40 Yuan per hour to explore the ancient waterways on your own.

Shopping:

There are lots of shops around Houhai area as well and one of the main shopping store is the Lotus Blue Shop (51-17 Di’anmen Xidajie/6617-2714). This store is just a few doors away from the Lotus Blue Bar which is the trendiest boutique on the lake. The Lotus Blue Shop offers a nice assortment of handicrafts from around Southeast Asia and has loads of other unique Chinese porcelain figurines. The old Hutong allerways from YinDing Brigde towards the 13th-century Drum Tower are also great for browsing, even if you aren’t in a buying mood. The antique shops around Houhai offer local collectibles including vintage photos of HouHai, which looks remarkable unchanged even after half a century. There are numerous clothing and trinket shops such as the Tibetan boutique Garum Meijing (12 Yandai Xiejie/6402-8988). Much of the jewellery and fabric is Tebatan-style from Nepal.
