An E-ticket is an electronic ticket, which is basically just a computer generated ticket. You don’t receive an actual printed ticket like the old days but save the cost of the printed ticket that used to be mailed out to the person flying.

After you have paid for your tickets online, the screen will present you with your payment confirmation receipt, your ticket number and your itinerary, which is your so-called e-ticket. At the same time, it will be stored in the airline database and sent to your registered email or cell phone.

Why use E-tickets?

The use of E-tickets is surely more than a paper-saving or environment- friendly innovation.

They benefit both the passengers and the airlines.

For passengers: With e-tickets, they do not run the risk of losing a ticket. In some cases, you may save money because some airlines and travel agents may charge an extra fee for printing and delivering paper plane tickets to passengers. Passengers may also save time at the airport as more airlines feature self-service check-in kiosks for passengers with e-tickets.

For airlines: With e-tickets, several steps in the ticket issuing and processing stage can be eliminated which benefit airlines allowing them to cut their ticketing costs.

How E-ticket works

E-tickets work the same way as the paper ones.

At check-in, you show the airline’s agent your ID card and provide the 6 digit conformation number. He or she will compare your e-ticket against the airline database and issue you a boarding pass when everything checks out. You may also be able to plug your data into a self service check-in computer or kiosk and print your own boarding pass.

If you want you can make it a bit easier by going to the airline’s website within 24 hours before the flight and using that 6 digit code to print your boarding pass. That allows you to totally skip the ticket counter and go to security and then your gate.

It is easy, isn’t it! Go pack and start your wonderful China Tours with an e-ticket.
