Air China

Chinese Name: 中国国际航空公司

Airline Code: CA

Air China is one of China’s largest carriers and has flights all over China, Asia and the rest of the world. As a Star Alliance member, Air China flights on the same routes as its partner can be a cheaper option but airplanes are typically rather old with few modern amenities (like overhead lights that work). 

 

 

China Southern Airlines

Chinese Name: 中国南方航空公司

Logo: red kapok delicately adoring a blue vertical tail fin.

Airline Code: CZ

Based in Guangzhou, China Southern serves mostly southern China but also operates many Asia and broader international flights. It touts a relatively modern fleet of airplanes.

China Eastern Airlines

Chinese Name: 中国东方航空公司

Based in Shanghai, China Eastern operates domestic flights all over China as well as strong international flight routes. 

 

Hainan Airlines

Chinese Name: 海南航空公司

Logo: pearl at the top and a golden wing roc as its main body

Hainan Airlines is based out of Haikou, Hainan Island but has extensive domestic routes as well as limited international routes mostly in Eastern Europe.

Shenzhen Airlines

Chinese Name: 深圳航空公司

Shenzhen Airlines is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and serves the Chinese domestic market with a very few international (Asian) flights.

Xiamen Airlines

Chinese Name: 厦门航空公司

Xiamen Airlines is the first enterprise operated airlines in Mainland China. From 2009 it opened the chartered service between Shenyang and Taiwan, which is the unique direct chartered flight in Northeast China and also the longest cross-Straits charter flight currently.

 For discount China Flights, the most practical tips are book in advance and be flexible. Late-night flights, very early morning flights and flights with at least one stop tend to be discounted. Friday and Sunday are the most expensive days to travel while Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are typically the cheapest days to fly.
