Beijing has one of the most tourists’ sights in the world. So when one Travel to Beijing, Tiananmen Square is a must-visit area.  Beijing Tours have provided all sorts of fun and exciting travelling packages for International travellers so visiting Tiananmen Square would not be that difficult.

Tiananmen Square is visited by thousands of people every day and it would probably take a whole day to finish the whole area. So by wearing proper footwear is a must as you need to walk a lot to see the whole area. Also, the wind around that area is very cold so wearing thicker jackets and scarfs is a must as well. Beware of getting lost when travelling with friends as the place is always very crowded so you can get lost fairly quickly. But there are a lot of signs and guards patrolling the area so you can just ask for help or look at the signs. It is easy to get by alone as well.

Tiananmen Square Entrance

Tiananmen Square lies between two ancient and massive gates: Tiananmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace) to the north and Qianmen (Front Gate) to the south.  Along the west side of the Square is the Great Hall of people which is used by legislative and ceremonial activities by the People’s Republic of China and the Communist Party in China.  The building is 66 meters long, 37 meters wide and 32 meters high. It is made up of a platform and a tower and the tower sits on the platform with five arch gateways. As the largest of the five, the centre archway is used as the specific passage for the Ming and Qing emperors during ancient times while sides ones are smaller and employed as the passages for ministers and officials. Above the archway hangs a large portrait of MaoZeDong, on the east and west sides of which are two giant placards, the left one reads: “Long Live the People’s Republic of China” and the right one reads: “Long Live the Great Unity of the World’s Peoples”.

How to get there:

If you want to travel by yourself, you can either take the bus or subway. The bus stop and subway station are both situated near Tiananmen Square. But for the newcomers or people travelling with large families and friends, I would recommend you to follow on tours as it would be easier to get around, safer and also you can get many more information about the place itself. China Youth Travel Service (CYTS) is one of the best options as it provides good services to everyone and it is one of the most famous travelling agencies in China.

Tips on travelling around Tiananmen Square:

When travelling around Tiananmen Square, there would be a lot of individual guides giving flyers around and offering their services. It is best not to take anything from them and do not follow their guided tours as they would charge over-the-top prices and also they would sometimes bring you to dangerous places. In front of the gates there would also be people giving out China flags. If you do not intend to buy it then do not take it from them as the flags cost 5 Yuan. They would also force you to take it but you should just ignore them of just say no.

Beijing is an amazing place to see and there are lots of things to do as well. So why not travel to Beijing and book any of the China Tours and come experience Beijing for yourself!
