This is the place where it all happens for chinese tourists, westerner’s and anyone else looking to find the odd Apple shop in Beijing. The city itself is still developing at the moment and you can really feel the mix between cultural and contemporary China. With more and more tourists visiting China and as businesses boom, it is no wonder that a western feel to Beijing is developing more rapidly. Sanlitun is an area at the heart of the city that congregates a mixture of people looking for anything from hotels to bars, top end restaurants to street food, or fashion to cheap bargains. You can find all it here! Be sure to book your trip through China Travel Depot so you can receive the best deal and for a hassle free trip, book a guided tour.

The Village, Sanlitun

So far, my experience at Sanlitun has been very busy. I haven’t had a lot of time to slow down and explore every corner what Sanlitun offers, but it has been more than enough to say the least. I have seen many well known businesses that operate in the west which is great because it helps to see something familiar such as the Apple store or McDonald’s. At the same time, I have seen so many new stores that offer so many different types of cloths and foods. When I do get a chance, I’ll pop into a shop and have a look around at what things they sell. If I was a billionaire, I don’t think it would be enough money to cover the costs of some of the cloths I’d like to buy out here, they’re ridiculously cool! I’ve noticed puffer jackets are very popular here and I am eager to get one from somewhere, so at the moment I’m waiting for the best bargain. There are so many shops and more places to visit yet so be patient when you buy from a big western retailer. I say this because I had made the mistake of walking into a store in Raffles City, it was full of vintage type cloths and a jacket caught my eye from a store window. I walked in a tried it on (with the intention of buying) and I had thought it was going to be fairly cheap but to my surprise it was 2453rmb! I made a quick exit. Learning from this devious experience, nothing in Beijing is what it seems at first glance, you have to look closely and explore the options. There are plenty of markets to also have a browse around too around Beijing such as the Yashow Market and Silk Market, so taking the time to visit these places is very worth it, unless 2453rmb is in your price range of course!

Bar Street, Sanlitun

There are a number of other shopping malls in Beijing which I will talk about in my upcoming entries. If you found this somewhat useful and has given a brief insight to life in Sanlitun, then book a hotel there through China Hotels. You’ll be right in the centre of the action and won’t be too far off from a familiar face, food or shop. But be rest assured that seeking an alternative path in Beijing will make your trip here more adventurous, so don’t just stick the Sanlitun, it should be the platform in which you can explore the other possibilities that Beijing offers.
