Front of Military Museum

China People’s Revolution Military Museum stands on the North side of the Central section of Fuxing Road directly South of the Yuyuantan park.  The Museum is composed of two four – story wings and a main building of seven stories topped with gilded emblem of the Chinese people liberation.  The museum occupies a total area of 60,000 square meters.  The After passing through the lobby, one comes to the central exhibition hall.  There are two pillars on each side of the door way and a huge star above on the ceiling which represents an interpretation of the China national flag.
This hall way includes about 500 odd photographs and more than 1,000 mementous of the Chinese revolution led by Mao Zendog over the course of half a century.  There are three floors in this building.  On the eastern side of this building, the three floors are taken up by specialized halls. The titles of which are in calligraphy of Chen Yi, who penned them at the request of Zhou Enlai (The first Premier of the people’s republic of China) .
  • Floor 1 is devoted to the second revolutionary Civil War (1927 – 1937).
  • Floor 2 is devoted to the war of resistance Against Japan (1937 – 1945).
  • Floor 3 is devoted to the revolutionary Civil war (1945 – 1949).

First Floor Museum

The exhibit in these three halls depict the 28 years from the founding of the Communist Party in 1921 to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.  They treat the organization of the party and the army, the establishment of rural revolutionary bases and the seizure of state power by the armed forces.

Included in the exhibits is an oil lamp used by Mao Zedong during the Jiggang Mountain struggle, and photographs showing Mao writing his essay “On Protracted War” and delivering his famous speech at the celebration of the founding of New China.

Also on display are photographs of Zhou Enlai, Zhu and other Veterans of the revolution.  There are sections devoted to the people’s Liberation Army and the masses show the importance of their participation in the revolutionary war.  There is also a special section devoted to noted revolutionary martyrs such as Norman Bethune and D.S Kotnis.

Military wear

The first floor exhibition hall contains a general exhibition with a display of dangerous weapons such as tanks, aeroplanes and rocket bombs.   While the second and third floor house a display called “The Protection of Socialist Revolution and Construction”.  This includes machine guns, bullets, knives etc.

The outdoor Plazas represent weapons used by the people of the revolution used by the people’s Liberation Army and the weapons captured from the enemy during periods of the revolutionary war.  You can pay an extra 10 Yuan to access this part of the museum and if you like “play on the machines” but if you do would need to get there in plenty of time so that you don’t miss out on this opportunity at the end of the day.   There is also a game section where you can sit in a booth and your friend sits in the other booth and you can race and fight against one another sitting in a virtual tank. There is a fee of 1 Yuan.
You can spend the whole day in this museum so be prepared to wrap up warm, it can get quite cold walking around the museum and also the outside section has no roof cover.  Except green net surrounding the area.  Kind of a military style.  So again would suggest bringing a warm coat.
