Lotus Mountain Scenic Area
Panyu Lotus Hill Scenic Spot, located in the bank of the Pearl River Estuary. It is a wonderful place that rolls ancient rough and modern beauty into one. “Lin Peak view of the sea” there is one of “Eight Guangzhou New Century”. China National Tourism Administration has also been classified as AAAA-class tourist area in 2002.
Lotus Hill Guanyin Pure Land looks large and majestic. The Golden Guanyin Status facing the sea is 40.88 meters high. You can enjoy the beauty where the sunshine reflects on the sea and the gold color of the status lightens the sky. It is the largest foil gold statue of the world. With almost 1000 Guanyin status, it is definitely a treasure house of Guanyin culture.
Lotus rocks area has a history of thousand years as the ancient quarry sites since the Western Han Dynasty was founded. There are cliffs, strange rocks and caves with uncanny craftsmanship. It is famous for these “the man wins the God accidently” rocks views, as it is the only place to see the “artificial Danxia” miracle.
Chen Clan Academy
Guangdong folk art museum, also called Chen Clan Academy, was built in 1888, surnamed Chen clan family who donated the construction of the temple in 72 counties in Guangdong Province. This temple could be the representative of both Lingnan architecture and Guangdong’s folk art.
Chen Clan Temple faces south, covering 15,000 square meters. One of the main building flat squares is 80 meters wide and deep, with a total area of 6400 square meters. The building takes the middle road as the main line of the whole and both sides are enclosed with halls and rooms, yards and corridors interspersed. Monomers in each block are separated by Qingyun Lane and connected by galleries. Nineteen buildings there have regular vertical and horizontal construction with strict symmetry. They have tall and majestic halls, beautiful veranda, quiet courtyard, which are very typical of the Guangdong Folk Art ancestral hall-style architecture, known as the pearl of Lingnan architecture.
Chen Clan has become the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, mainly because there are “three carves three sculptures and one cast iron.” “Three carves” refers to the stone lions and Shek Kwu in front of the gate; brick carves inlayed on the both sides of left door walls. Its left is the “Water Margin Juyi Hall” and the right is “Liu Qing Ambushes Wolf-horse”; and a screen door has four large wood carves (including relief, through carving, etc.). “Three Sculptures” refers to the colorful, gray and pottery sculptures that can be reflected everywhere on Chen Clan Temple roof. “A cast iron” refers to the superb cast iron crafts in Chen Clan Temple.
The Clock Tower
The old Customs building is a modern Western neoclassical masterpiece of architecture in Guangzhou, commonly known as the Clock Tower. It has silvery bell ringing, which can be heard 5km away. This tower was built in 1916 by an American architect and the main construction materials were all imported by the United States.
Tower Studio
This building is the former residence of Chen Shao Bai. And Sun Zhongshan had lived here on the second floor in 1920s. In recent years, the fate of this issue by studio tower was controversial in the engineering design of the Pearl River. One view was that “Guangzhou Bund” should be spacious and the floor pan, if not removed yet. However, after considering the factors by relevant departments, they decided to place reservations by converting it to a new concept of modified opening up river floor.
Whampoa Military Academy
During Anti-Japanese War, the former site of the Whampoa Military Academy was destroyed. After a large scale repair in 1964, it had recovered the original condition. The former site of the Whampoa Military Academy in 1984 to establish memorial site to commemorate the military is now building a military entrance, Zhongshan Monument, Zhongshan former residence, clubs, swimming pools and Eastern Campaign martyrs’ tomb. The former site of the Whampoa Military Academy and the school history have vividly demonstrated during the history of the first cooperation betweenr the two parties to develop anti-imperialist and against the warlords struggle. Whampoa Military Academy is a national cultural heritage site as well.
