My China Travels in Hangzhou

On October 11, 2010, in Beijing, Cool Places, Shanghai, by Jack Li

Because of my mother’s homecoming, I spent my summer holiday from China Tours in Hangzhou. I went sightseeing on Hangzhou. During my visit to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, I met a lot of new friends; some of them are local Hangzhou people while the rests are from all over China. We spent a nice summer holiday together there beside the west lake. It is such a precious experience about china travel that I will not forget.

What impresses me most is the ease life that people lead in Hangzhou. Even though Hangzhou is a modern city nowadays, it is still lead special life of its own.

Early in the morning, around six o’clock, lots of people come out for their morning exercises beside the West Lake, Performing a sword-dance, kicking the shuttlecocks, or practicing tai chi. Most of them are around the age of sixty. They enjoy the scenery of West Lake early in the morning. West Lake located in Hangzhou, capital of east China’s Zhejiang Province is one of the most charming lakes in China. The beautiful scenery of West Lake makes Hangzhou well-known and Hangzhou makes west lake more popular all over the world. In a word, West Lake is a complement to Hangzhou.

West Lake covers an area of 5.6 square kilometers and has a perimeter of 15 kilometers. It is embraced by green hills on three sides. The lake has five parts. And it is famous for its ten sights. Such as Melting Snow at Broken Bridge, Spring Dawn at Sudi Causeway, Sunset Glow over Leifeng Hill, Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard, Autumn Moon on Calm Lake, Listening to Orioles Singing in the Willows, Viewing Fish at Flowers Harbor etc. There is no exaggeration to say that the beauty of West Lake never changes due to the alternation of the seasons.

If you want to get to the island of the lake, you are advised to take a boat. But if you just want to enjoy the scenery around the lake, you’d better choose to visit by bike for the perimeter of the lake is around 15 kilometers. The bikes in Hangzhou are quite special. Almost all the bikes seem the same in this city. In fact, they are all rent from a “bike station”. The only thing you need to do is to get a Z Card. With this card, you can choose bike from one station in Hangzhou and return it to the nearest station when you do not need it. In order to get a Z Card, you should hand in 300 yuan and offer your effective certificate. If you return the bike in an hour, it is free. (1yuan per hour for less than 2 hours and 3yuan per hour for 120 to 180 minutes, in all, it is much cheaper and convenient to travel by bike.)

During our visit to West Lake, we are encouraged to have a taste of the chrysanthemum tea of Hangzhou. From its name we can see that it’s a kind of tea, it leaves a deep impression on me because of its sweet aftertaste. What is more, the chrysanthemum is a kind of medicine in China. It is said that it can prevent sore throat and make people feel more alert. And it has the function to treat the eyes and clear the liver. In others, Chinese people regard it as a way of living to drink tea for they enjoy the feeling of ease when they make and drink tea.

Hope you enjoy your Hangzhou vacation, too. By the way, Hangzhou enjoys large flows of visitors all the year round. So it is your best choice to book China Hotels beforehand. Enjoy your time in this city.
