Beijing, a city with a long history and profound culture, has always been attractive to travelers from all over the world. To them, the Great Wall, Summer Palace and the Forbidden City are must-see attractions. They are right. However, Beijing is more than these most famous attractions. The history and culture of Beijing are also reflected through its old streets and architectures. In the following, I will mention some excellent streets in Beijing for those who are on Beijing Tours or who plan to Travel to Beijing.
1. Niujie (Cow Street)
Niujie is a street located in Xuanwu District in Beijing, which is also the largest area inhabited by Muslims. It has gained worldwide reputation for Niujie Mosque which is the biggest and oldest mosque in Beijing. The architecture of Niujie Mosque shows a combination of Chinese and Islamic styles. The buildings in this street are in green color as green is the color loved by Muslims. Also there are a lot of Islamic snacks provided in this street. If you are interested in Islamic culture, you can go to this street.
2. Liulichang Cultural Street
Liulichang is located south of the Heping Gate of Xuanwu District in Beijing. It was formed in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties to be used as a factory for
producing colored glaze. After so many years it has become a cultural street for exchanging the traditional Chinese calligraphy, paintings and the four treasures of study, i.e. writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper. There are numerous shops gathering here among which you can find some famous names such as Rongbaozhai (an art palace for paintings and calligraphy) and China Bookstore.
3. Xinjiekou Musical Instrument Street
On the two sides of Xinjiekou South Street you can see a number of small shops selling musical instruments. These shops are formed spontaneously. In most cases, you can find any musical instrument you want here. They sell not only Chinese musical instruments such as Guzheng, Erhu but also western ones such as guitar and piano. Besides, they also sell sound equipments. So, if you love music, you can go to the so called No.1 Street for musical instruments.
4. Maliandao Tea Street
Maliandao Tea Street is Located in Xuanwu District, near the Beijing West
Railway Station. It is the biggest tea market in Beijing and the largest tea distribution center in northern China. There are almost 1000 tea stores from the largest seven tea producing areas of China. You can find all kinds of teas here. Before you buy the tea, you are allowed to have a taste of the tea first and then you can bargain with the sellers.
Are these streets familiar to you? Maybe you have already known some of them, or maybe they really are new to you. Whatever, this introduction may help you get some information of Beijing streets and help your Beijing tours in some degree. Of course, Beijing has more streets than the above mentioned ones. You can explore more by yourself when you take one of China Flights to Beijing.
