Why are you interested in China Tours? I believe most of you will answer “the different Ancient Asian cultures”. Because China is so different from these western countries, it attracts travelers who are curious about different cultures. However, if you pick the wrong cities in China, for example the Guangzhou Tours, you may end up with disappointments. These big name cities are quite modernized that cultures and architectures are influenced by western countries a lot. So a tour of Ancient Silk Road will satisfy your appetite.
The starting point is Xi’an. Xi’an used to be the most famous and largest city in the world during Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.). Now it is the capital of Gansu province in northwestern China. The airline is Hainan Airlines
HU7808 from Shanghai Pudong airport to Xi’an Xianyang airport. The price was RMB 350 yuan plus RMB 200 yuan for fuel fees. There are many lines of shuttle bus to downtown area. You can take a bus to the city at first, then take a taxi to the hotels. The shuttle bus is RMB 27 yuan per person. For night views, I recommend Gu Lou (鼓楼). You can visit the ancient walls, similar to the Great Wall, with beautiful lights and decorations. The food is also tasty in Xi’an. You should try Muslim street for the lamb dishes and Mutton Soup with Bread (羊肉泡馍). Usually two breads or Nangs are free, if you order one soup. The price is RMB 10 yuan for one set. Also the BBQ is worth to try and cheap. You can be full with RMB 20 yuan and various kinds of BBQ are served.
Important city sightseeing spots: Terracotta Warriors and Horses; Big Wild Goose Pagoda; Ancient City Wall; Shaanxi Historical Museum.
The second station is Dunhuang(敦煌). It used to have the name Shachou-city of sands- during ancient silk road. Mingsha mountain is 15
minutes drive from downtown. Here, three sides are high sand mountains. And the Crescent Lake is embraced by this echoing-sand mountain. The name “Mingsha” came from the sound of whipping sound of dunes by winds. If you are familiar with the Chinese Literature—Journey to the West, you might not want to miss the Thunder Monastery. The most important viewing spot is Mogao Grottoes which is 25 km away from the Dunhuang city. It includes 492 grottoes, 415 painted clay figures and several 45,000 square meters of murals.
Must-see Spots: Mogao Grottoes, Echoing-sand Mountain, Crescent Lake.
The third station is Turfan (吐鲁番). It takes 12 hours from Gansu province to Turfan by train. On the way to the downtown, the largest Wind Power Station in the Asia will be seen. Later on, the flaming mountain which
is also mentioned in the Journey to the West, can be seen from the bus as well. It is said that the temperature there can be as high as 80 degrees so that the eggs can be cooked in a minute on the rocks. As Turfan locates in Xi’jiang province, the views and cultures here are different from east part of China. Minorities of ethnic groups, Uyghur, are living here. So the local food are quite different but tasty as well.
Must-try Spots: Bezeklik Thousand Buddh Caves, Grape Valley, Flaming Mountain, Gaochang Ancient City, Mount Nan Pasture, Terai Camp.
The Ancient Silk Road had a long prosperous history from 202 B.C. to 8 A.D. Although it has been replaced by the New Eurasian Continental Bridge, this ancient road still has important uses and attractions. Now this road is attracting more and more visitors to experience ancient feeling by tracking the same road.
