, this is my true experience. This is how much I spent on the Air China during the Christmas vacation this year. What’s more, this airline company is a member of Star Alliance, so I get another $100 gift cards from my aeroplan mileage points.
As a low-income student who loves travelling around, I am always interested in collecting information on how to reduce the cost. The most expensive part of a trip is the ticket tickets. Here, I’d like to share some tips with you:
1. A flexible schedule for your trip. Do NOT start planning your trip before getting tickets done. The typical cheapest days to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Also very early (like 8am) or late-night (like 11pm) flights often have the biggest discount. For example, the price for tickets from Vancouver to Beijing on Friday was about $100 more than it was on Thursday.
2. Do not book too early. Booking as early as possible does not mean you book your tickets one year before the trip. On the contrary, the China airlines companies usually publish discounted tickets no more than two months in advance.
3. Avoid travelling during “blackout periods”. Unlike most 
western countries, the summer “blackout period” of China airlines is between July and August, rather than May to August. The National Day holiday, between the end of September and the beginning of October, is also the time for full-priced airline tickets. The Christmas holiday is a good choice, if you are travelling within China. But if you plan to visit China from other countries during the Christmas or Chinese Spring Festival, especially from Canada and Australia, you will feel regret about this decision.
4. Purchase tickets through agencies. If you, unfortunately, have missed the cheap tickets published online, there is no need to be disappointed or upset. The last chance you can try is those travel agencies authorized by China airlines companies. These agencies buy a large number of tickets by the discounted price for groups. Also they can get additional discount, because of helping an airline to fill up all available seats.
5. Try to remain the same airline company during your entire trip.Many airlines in China provide some rewards or privileges to their members. For example, the Sky Pearl Club of China Southern Airlines has Sky Pearl Gold card and Silver card. The card holders have the free access to lounge of China Southern Airlines.
7. Last, if you are coming from other countries, you can fly to big cities in China at first. Several flight lines, like Shanghai Flights, and Guangzhou Flights are always full of competitions. Therefore you can always find cheap tickets to these places. After arrival in China, you can choose train or bus to go to other cities.
